About this castle / palace rental
This room’s residents are protected by a pair of lions and Burmese spirits (“Nats” in Burmese) in wood and lacquerware. The room is also decorated by some Burmese paintings and a collection of 18th-century French engravings. It gives access to a large terrace with a beautiful view of the city.
Castle in Old Town has been the summer residence of the Daru family since 1998. Once a fortress before the Mongol invasions, it was from the 16th century the house of the Persian Shah Administrator for Eastern Georgia. It also hosted a small nunnery for some time. During the Communist period, it was transformed into communal apartments for up to 110 individuals. It has returned to its formal glory, and a limited number of its rooms are made available for some happy few, every year. We are happy to welcome you and hope you will enjoy your stay.
