Not comfortable at all

It was in a good location.

There was no warm water in the room, the window opened into an inner gang with no fresh air but was not closeable properly but at least we could hear all noised from downstair and smell all kitchen food. The AC were not fine for heating therefor the room was so cold that I needed to cover myself with 4 layers but I still was freezing :( The breakfast was quite poor. We had planned to spend there 3 nights but at the end we stayed only 1 because of the lack of heating, warm water and uncloseable windows, but the hostel owner payed back only 1 night. It was a big disappointment.

The staff were amazing, so kind and very welcoming. I joined them In some nights activities at the hostel (Samba class and more) Location in the center of the island. I highly recommend it! I met great people I would definitely visit the hostel again on my next visit Thank-you

One night I was in the 8 room dorms on the upper bed of three bunk beds. No space to move or sit up right wasn't too happy so I asked to move to the 4 bed dorms. They didn't hesitate to help. I would say the beds can use an extra layer of quilt to cover up

Wonderful Stay on the Island

I really enjoyed staying at this hostel on the island. The staff are very friendly and provide lots of helpful travel information. It’s easy to meet other guests and make new friends to hang out with. There’s a place to dry your clothes, which is very convenient. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious. I had a great time and would definitely stay here again next time!

Nice hostel on Ilha Grande

The hostel staff is very nice and helpful (even though they dont speak english that much). The location is good and the rooms are clean. I liked the free breakfast.

The breakfast is the same every morning (it gets too repetitive), the matress could be more comfortable. The wifi was always not working. be careful about the food you leave in common fridge - even when properly labeled my cheese and tomato sauce got stollen :(

Avoid the 3 level bunkbed

Staff: everyone is very friendly despite working way too many hours (same people seen at 8am for breakfast and at 10:30pm when they close the common area ; some seem to be living on site in a room on the ground floor, which wouldn't help having clear schedule separation between duty and off time. Good breakfast. And 3 electric plugs at my bed.

Upon arrival I was told to pick a bed but later a couple came and decided they wanted the bed I picked (I was told they chose it earlier, but since they did not put anything on it, it seemed available). As a result, I was forcibly moved to a 3 level bunkbed: the space is so narrow (probably 70/80cm max including the mattress), it was not possible to sit on the bed and I kept knocking my head). 3 level bunkbeds are not comfortable. And unfair as we paid the same amount as people who stayed in the standard 2 level beds. Cleanliness was average (1 shared bathroom for 7 beds is not enough), soap provided only at the sink, no shower soap and no towel provided (towel has to be rented but none were available when I asked so I had to use my beach towel).

Nice breakfast with a chill common area

Delfina from the front desk handled my last minute booking very well. Nice breakfast (bread, fruit, eggs, some avocado, cake and coffee). Great common area. Clean bathrooms.

A place that felt like home in the island

Mahalo is the perfect place for stay in Ilha Grande. After a month and a half of staying I can say that everything was perfect. Perfect location, perfect breakfast, super comfy rooms, and of course- Gonza, the owner that really makes you feel welcomed and home. For sure going to come back!

the atmosphere is very friendly. everything that you would expect from an excellent hostel. The staff are fantastic! every single one of them. Gonze saved my trip, I had forgotten my card and left the island, he did everything he could and made sure that I’d receive my card in time before my flight. (they’re also available and speak good English, whatever I needed, I just had to ask) I highly recommend it.

Lovely place

The ppl there are amazing!! They helped me a lot during my stay, muito obrigado Carolina, Luiza and Gonza. The kitchen is very well equipped. The room was fine and the cleanliness was excellent.

I hope next time I'm there I can drink some caipis. Heard a guy there makes the best.

the breakfast is 10/10! lovely fresh juices, fruits, guacamole, cakes and bread with scrambled eggs! the best hostel breakfast we’ve had! this hostel is perfect if you want more of a chilled out vibe on the island. plenty of common areas and well located.

the rooms are a little cramped but apart from that this place is perfect!

cool vibes but not we’ll maintained

really awesome atmosphere!! In the afternoons and evenings when it was raining, many people would hang out and sing and play various instruments and games. it was really cool and unique and very easy to meet people

it was quite dirty. I stayed in a private room, and when I arrived the floor and all the surfaces were covered in sand. the shower was disgusting. I get that it’s an island, but they could have wiped down the shelves so I could put my clothes on them. the shower door was extremely broken and there were exposed electrical wires IN THE SHOWER. this felt super unsafe. there was also a bad ceiling water leak in the shower when it rained. the room was tiny and I wouldn’t recommend it for a couple

Nice way to start our trip

We were greeted by friendly staff each time and the other hostellers were very friendly - there was a real sense of chill, but it was still very communal. The en-suite shower was also a plus too.

The room was always muggy and the air con didn’t ever seem to come on.

Simple yet cozy

Simple accommodations but had everything you need: comfy bed, warm shower, functional lockers (unlike some other hostels in Brazil) breakfast included, etc. The guy at the reception (Gonza) was extremely helpful and patient with me when I had questions about this and that, as I just landed in Brazil a day before arriving this hostel and needed some orientation about few things as well as local tours. The location is right next to the centre (close to everything) yet in a quiet place which was nice.

Would have been easier if more staff could speak some English, which could have made my stay a bit smoother.

Classic hostel with good mood, amazing staff and guests and fair cost/benefit. Kitchen with utensils available, a satisfactory breakfast to start the day. Definitely I indicate it for who wants to have a fine socialization and company for the many tour options at the island.

I think what makes this hostel so special is the incredible staff. Edu is so nice and helpful, always there to answer any of our questions. Matti is the best artist on the island. He is the one who did all the paintings that made the hostel look so colorful and unique. And also Romàn who was not part of the staff, but was always there to keep it fun and alive thanks to his energy and his Caipirinha nights. I would definitely recommend this hostel if these guys are around

met amazing people, the guests were proposedly distributed among the available rooms so there wouldn’t be too many people in a room. the breakfast was really nice and the location is amazing.

the staff, although really very friendly, wasn’t well prepared regarding the possible activities and felt too new to the island. they new all the paid ones in order to sell them, but they sell them at prices higher than what can just be found down the street.

Nice hostel to meet people!

What I like the most is actually the people I had the chance to meet. The breakfast option were ok but the kitchen was dirty overall. The staff was super nice and helpful! The location was very great and quiet at night.

The bedsheets and bed in general looks/are very dirty. Also because of the humidity, the bathroom was not quite clean. The facilities were pretty poor, not that much spaces for our stuffs. As said earlier, dirty kitchen. It’s time to change the sponge !!!
