Oriental Coast Varenna

Excellent location, close to the station and the lake. We weren't disturbed by the trains at all. Welcome air con, comfortable bed and a brilliant shower

Varenna gets very busy at times, but empties out in the evenings. Obviously outside of the owners control!

So near the train station, everything you need is available including a grocery shop nearby and the ferries. The Aircon unit was amazing!

This is a nice apartment, spacious lounge/kitchen area with a pleasing view of trees and a few houses, close to the station, ferry and a picturesque walk along a water's edge path into the town centre. A folder of local information and suggestions was good.

There were a number of things that weren't what one would expect from a quality stay, particularly one in this price range. The on-line registration form included requests for information beyond what is required by Italian law (Why??). Fabio, our host, advised that some sections were optional (Note: they weren't marked as such). We were told that our request for a 30 minutes early check-in would be advised on the day.  Most rentals would have organised a modest request like this and advised us in advance. Instead, we received advice that the apartment was ready 20 minutes AFTER the official check-in time.  Fabio advised that there was a problem with Booking.com 's messaging system. On the TV there were no English, French or German stations of note and, importantly for us on this trip, no Italian RAI network stations at all, so no World Cup games to watch, and also no entertainment or international affairs programs. Watching World Cup games on RAI on our phones was not the same thing. There were, however, a number of Russian and middle European language TV stations available. Fabio told us that no one had ever commented about this before. There was a shutter in the bathroom that woke us in the night twice because, in strong winds, it couldn't be secured internally or externally.  Fabio had not been told about this before. There were other things - a bedroom light bulb out, an AC that regularly turned itself off, and an apparently fragile electrical system that came with detailed instructions about how to reset.
