Clean, Tidy. Good down stairs kitchen and lounge. No facilities up stairs.

This place was extremely clean, tidy and obviously well looked after. The host or manager was very helpful re messages/ requests etc. The kitchen was A1 as was the pantry and all utensils. A quiet place and close to a supermarket.

I was in the upstairs room. Upstairs had no bathroom, washbasin or toilet, kitchen, fridge or table. The stairs were extremely narrow with a 360 degree turn half way up - just a twisting step, no mid point landing. I am 82 years old and having to clamber up and down stairs several times a night was no fun at all - nor was carrying my bags up much fun either. The site should perhaps say that upstairs is not recommended for those over 70 years of age.

We came for a funeral in Whangarei and the house was not soothing.

The location was great being opposite a supermarket & a bottle shop. The lounge and kitchen table were beautifully presented. The linen was lovely and clean. It was a beautiful old villa.

The advertisement made the place sound like a whole villa but it was single room renting. I would have expected it to be called a backpacker. The bathrooms and kitchen were grubby. The outside seating area was unattractive. Really exactly like a backpacker, not a residential villa. The hosts started trying to get us out at 9am by bustling around, knocking on doors. Very uncomfortable.

Central, reasonably priced

Home Internet connection stopped at night and not re-connected until after I checked out. I couldn't work on my laptop. My room was at the top of narrow stairway, no light switch at top, only at bottom. Dangerous at night when wanting to use bathroom downstairs.

Whangarei a place of interest.

The facilities are satisfactory for a large group to consider, my original room was rebooked by an occupant, but my host was able to find me an alternative room, but due to the cold air blowing through the French doors it was very cold at night The bathroom has no safety lock, so be mindful when you enter through the door, it may surprise you. The kitchen is equipped, but I can not say if it was sufficient as I never used it. There are laundry facilities, but both machines are for washing so you may have to wait your turn if you require drying facilities, otherwise you can dry outside if you are able to locate the clothes racks. The local shops are directly opposite the hous, so being able to buy what you need is possible from 07.00-22.00, there are restaurants & takeaway aways close by but only trade on certain days & specific times.

Cheap and ideal for a weekend away

It had everything you needed, kitchen and bathroom was well stocked with things. The owner was very polite and helpful. Amazing price for what is on offer. We felt very safe and plenty of parking.

I hope it doesn't get any cheaper as it could attract certain type of people. There was a guest upstairs arguing on the phone in the morning, sounded like it was about court/probation but other than that it was amazing!

Great location would consider again for big groups

Lots of rooms and beds great for a group, had multiple bathrooms was clean and had what we needed for a one night stay. Great location across road from super market. Had heating which was fab for winter.

It was a bit tired but guess that’s what you get from an old villa, rooms were great though and same with bedding. Think it’s mainly used for a hostel back packer type accommodation as separate rooms can be rented out.

Unlivable and unsafe – we had to leave immediately. Don’t believe any of the reviews this is a huge joke.

We were shocked by the condition of this property upon arrival. It was nothing like the photos or description. There were broken windows, mold, dampness, and a strong, foul smell that triggered health issues for some of us, including someone with asthma. The house had personal items like used shoes that seemed to belong to the owner, making the space feel unclean, unprofessional, and completely unprepared for guests. It was obvious the property had not been properly cleaned or maintained. We felt unsafe and extremely uncomfortable, and ended up leaving immediately without staying a single night. This experience ruined the start of our trip. I strongly urge others to avoid this property until serious improvements are made — and Booking.com should reconsider listing it in its current state.

Exceptional Value and Comfort

I made a last-minute booking as my daughter was in hospital, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the shower was even better than the one I have at home! The heater kept the room warm and cozy, which made a big difference during a stressful time. As a solo traveller, I also really appreciated how safe and secure I felt. Outstanding value for money – I’m so grateful I found this place.

The property was awesome..There was a young couple staying there that decided they could just use my butter that I had just purchased and hadn't even opened. And to walk out of my room and seeing it sitting on the bench when I had put it in the fridge with the rest of my food, was rude. I ended up taking all my food into my room, until I was ready to cook my dinner. If they asked to use it, I wouldn't have a problem, but if you know that you didn't buy it, then don't touch it. The Asian couple were very nice and very friendly..
