Initially, the main reason for booking this hotel was because it had free on-site parking. In addition to this, we appreciated even more about the hotel. The building/spacious room itself was designed with mid 19th Century features, high ceilings and ceiling medallion, highly detailed ceramic tile flooring, tall windows with balconies in both main room and bathroom. It felt a bit like staying at grandpa's house, the furniture was a mix of vintage and eclectic, yet uncluttered and comfortable. The hotel manager/owner was friendly and spoke enough English for us to communicate. He was quiet and unassuming yet you felt a certain comfort in asking questions as needed. He was the only staff member ever at the main desk and was there from early morning to (at least) late afternoons. The breakfast was delicious and had plenty of food to choose from. The serving staff were very friendly and attentive, bringing out juice to each customer's table and refilling anything on the small buffet table that needed replenishment. I liked that we could put a sign on the door to not clean/disturb unless we requested it from cleaning staff. The parking attendant was friendly and organized. We let him know the day before if we would need the car for the following day and he made sure that it was parked in a manner for easy exit. The hotel is in a decent location/walkable distance to many of Palermo's historic sites. Overall, we loved the homey feel of this hotel and would return to it if we were to visit again.

The only small problem we had was the attachment that holds the handheld shower head was broken when we got there but we were able to rig up a system for it to work by tying it with plastic to hold it in place. Also, I did not see a hotel safe but there was plenty of furniture and drawers to keep personal items out of sight.

We stayed 3 nights in room 1 at Palazzo Pantaleo, between the Politeama Theatre & the Massimo Theatre, the location perfect for walking to sights & markets in the centro historico, restaurants & the marina area. It was a lovely spacious room with a balcony, clean & very comfortable with tasteful furnishings. The breakfast was generous with savoury & sweet choices & fresh orange juice. The free valet parking in the courtyard was managed with precision by the cheerful Dario. Mr Giuseppe Pantaleo, the owner, was very responsive & helpful from the time of booking in providing further information, driving directions & a map to the accommodation. He was present each morning to greet guests at breakfast & is quite a character, with a sense of humour & speaks English. A fabulous stay in the centre of Palermo, highly recommended.

Location, garden balcony and of course our wonderful host, Giuseppe! Breakfast was very good. And private parking - definitely a huge benefit in Palermo
