Thanks above all to the very welcoming, professional and helpful staff, I had a great stay at Hotel Agava on the marathon weekend in off-season Split. The hotel is small and nicely located in a bit of a hidden alleyway next to the Old Town, which gave it a quieter, secluded vibe, with the walk to the Old Town (and great coffee and breakfast places) being max 5-10 minutes. It was very comfortable and perfect for my weekend stay!

It was acceptable
My main complaint is that the heating unit was insufficient to heat the room. I was uncomfortably cold even when I turned the temperature and fan to high.

Nice small property in Split old town withing walking distance from all attractions (I traveled with my 5 yo daughter and walked everywhere). Clean and confortable rooms and swimming pool to relax after a day of sightseeing.
Breakfast is very good, but not in the hotel. It is served in a partner restaurant in the main promenade. Which of course is also cool : )

For a great last min deal which included breakfast
It was quiet clean and made for a nice change to airbnbs

Location was excellent, and the beds were very comfortable
There was no plug available to use in the bathroom sink due to the design of the sink which made having a wash / shave very difficult. Also the hot water was very intermittent, at times we had no hot water to wash or shower.

Nothing. There was one incident but they tackled it right away.

Lovely, helpful staff! And the location of the hotel is in a quiet, very atmospheric district, a very short walk from Split's old town and the Riva.
Room was a bit small, and hot water wasn't always instantly available...

Location : old city but very quiet not in the noisy party city
Nothing - everything was very fine

Great location near the restaurants and bars away from the busy centre. Nice quiet room. Small swimming pool and sun terrace.
Our room looked out onto a scruffy courtyard. I wouldn’t call it a garden! But it didn’t really bother us. Also the shower in room 3 does not drain efficiently, so it floods the bathroom floor unless you use 2 shower mats to soak up the water.

We loved our stay at Hotel Agava in Split and will return. It is a friendly, family run, small heritage hotel with a pool, nestled in the old town of Split. The owners are extremely helpful and accommodating and we would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you for a great stay!

Great location, really close to the old town - only 10 mins walk from the old town and 15 to the bus and ferry but much quieter and more relaxed. A little oasis tucked away in the hustle and bustle of Split. Pool area was fantastic, an absolute joy to relax there after a long day and the room was lovely, a beautiful room with great aircon and WiFi. Staff were really nice and helpful.
Lots of steep stairs- not an issue for us but may effect other guests

This hotel is just so beautiful and quaint. It is small but perfect for what we wanted. The pool is so lovely. The staff were also super friendly, with a relaxed, laid back and personal approach.

A cute little boutique hotel in such a great location. A short walk to Diocletian’s palace and the old town but situated in an area which is one of the older parts of Split (so has stunning old houses all around). You can also find lovely restaurants in the area that are much less touristy than in the palace. We ate at Konoba Duboka Ladovina (aka Deep Shade) twice and it was delicious. We also ate at Feel Green nearby. Great coffee and delicious food. Very small place so go early! The hotel has lovely appointed rooms - ours was top floor (but one of the staff took our bags up and down for us - appreciated!). We had views across to the old town. Stunning. There’s also a pool which is so needed in the height of summer. Extremely friendly and helpful staff in this family run hotel. Highly recommend. You are also close to the walkway up to the viewpoint above Split called Marjan - well worth the walk. Thank you for making our stay so great!

The rooms are unique and cozy with nice exposed brick. The location is great and easily walkable to main areas and restaurants. The pool is lovely and intimate and all areas are very clean.

The location was great, very good air con in the rooms, nice pool to relax in after a hot day. There is a link for breakfast with a a restaurant at the front who give a discount if you return for dinner. But lots of other places to get breakfast too.
There is no lift and the stairs are steep so it’s not suitable for mobility issues. The reception is not always manned.

Lovely pool, and good position.
Room 1!
An awful room, with no windows, and right behind the reception desk. It felt like sleeping in a storeroom.

Perfectly located in centre of town easy walking distance but not too much in the centre where it could get noisy
Clean room
Very powerful a/c
Has a pool in the old town
Parking available in closed public car park (not onsite)
No car access so you have to park in car park off site and walk in with luggages (most hotels are like this in split)
Room 2 (ours) was on ground floor next to reception but was still very quiet and comfortable. Watch it as room 1 has no windows to the outside
Breakfast is outsourced to a location 3 minutes away on foot

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was great. Pool was great, the kids loved it, perfect if you just want to chill without going to the beach.

The location was perfect - close to restaurants and bars and only a short walk into the main area. The staff members were delightful and extremely helpful. The pool was warm and inviting. Towels and linens were clean. Handy voucher for breakfast! The steamer for my evening dress was super. The nearby car park was handy and not too expensive.
We had to change rooms as Booking.com could not extend our stay a day either side and so we booked direct with the hotel, who were aware of the situation. The first room (behind reception) had no natural light and was not satisfactory but fortunately that was only for the first night. Even the second room required a light but I guess that's down to the age of the property! Neither room was really quiet as requested. The power went down the morning we left, which was not ideal.

Breakfast is not within the hotel however you are given vouchers for two local restaurants.
The location of the restaurants is walking distance and the breakfast was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They allowed you to bring your own drinks and food around the pool. They also allowed you to take their towels with you for boat trips.
7.0 / 10.0
Located only a few minutes walk from the marina this is perfect for sightseeing and boat tours. The property is in a rustic style with modern conveniences. Originally we were given the wrong room but this was quickly and effectively rectified. Our room by the pool although small had everything we needed although more hooks for towels and a mirror by the dressing table would be welcome. The air-conditioning was excellent and much needed. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is by the marina at Brasserie 7 and there is a good selection which is really nice. I'll do a separate review on that. We would definitely recommend.
My only criticism would be that there is no shade by the pool so if you were planning on having days by the pool there aren't any umbrellas. I did ask the staff and they said they were planning on getting some. It was in the 30s all week we there so they are much needed. The hotel is not manned after around 6pm until 8am so if you are someone that likes to have 24 hour reception then this might be an issue.

The style of the hotel was unique for us, it was centrally located but quiet. The A/C was excellent.
Not enough shade in the swimming pool.

This hotel was perfectly located and charming. It was very close to the sights and restaurants. Front desk staff were helpful when asked for info about sights, places to eat etc. The rooms were a decent size and very clean and comfortable. We did not use the pool but it was in a lovely setting with flowering plants. If it was hotter and I had more time I would have taken advantage of it. Parking was available but it was not right next to the hotel. You need to get to the hotel by foot as it is in a pedestrian only area. I did so and the person at the front desk was very helpful. She gave us directions to the garage and met us there to make sure the pass worked. She even helped us with our luggage. Advice: If you reserve parking with them, call when you get close by the hotel and they will give you instructions and will meet you at the garage if they can. It's not far away but pack light!
I would have preferred to have breakfast available at the hotel rather than at a nearby restaurant but it seems to be a common arrangement in Split and Dubrovnik. The restaurant breakfast was good but I like the convenience of having the meal in the hotel.
