Clean, well equipped room. Extra large, comfortable bed. Coffee machine in room. Good breakfast, also had a very nice evening meal too.

Steep stairs up to bedrooms. Difficult if you have mobility issues. Staff were quick to offer to carry bags up though.

Pleasant stay.

It was clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, food was good, lovely big bath, fridge in the room was really handy. The staff were friendly and the owner very friendly and helpful.

The heating in the room was set on a timer, and it switched off at certain times which made it cold and the temperature of the water of the bath and shower was lukewarm which made an unpleasant bath and shower. I received a message from the Sally before I arrived explaining the details of my stay and it said if I had any requests I should respond to which I did, I also sent an email and I phoned the day before. My message and email were never answered and my phone call’s requests were not listened to. I also found in the room, if there were drawers next to the bed it would have been better. Breakfast food was very good but we were just hoping for a table at breakfast where you could dish yourself up some yoghurt and fresh fruit not just have food made in the kitchen.

The breakfast was tasty and started at 7:30am which is perfect for business traveler’s. The dinner was delicious with plenty of choice. The staff were helpful, polite and friendly. The room came with fresh milk and bottled water.

The out side rear area was a bit tired with broken uneven surfaces, someone could easily trip and get injured.

Last minute stop - we'll worth it !

The atmosphere just put you st ease from the word go. Lovely out of the way place serving great beers and lovely food. The roo we had (bank) was lovely with everything you could need. Great bathroom except for the one thing we found.

Only 2 things. We found shavings in the wash hand basin - obviously missed by the cleaning staff (1/2 point deduction) and the kitchen fan noise which we did mention and was off when we went to bed and didn't come back on again till 0730. It was the last room so had all the bugs but even so it was great.

Shame about communication and our, brealfast

Good location , nicely decorated , clean

We felt very rushed as soon as we arrived to be told we needed to have dinner preferably 5.30 / 6pm , ( we had previously booked for 6.30pm ) . At the same time ( and we had not even got to our rooms yet .. ) we were asked what time we would like breakfast , and before we said a time we were told it's between 7.30am to 8.30 latest ! We settled on 8.15am . We went to breakfast 8.15 , breakfast room was in darkness , no staff about . When they did arrive felt rushed and breakfast could have been better , toast wasn't toasted , poached eggs tasted of vinegar , scrambled eggs didn't look very fresh .. coffee was weak and the Cumberland sausage tasted pre cooked and pre heated . The staff themselves were nice enough but communication could have been better . We would not stay again

Brilliant stay with the Sally

Brilliant friendly staff and a great location for walking Hadrians wall. They let us check in early and were really accommodating.

We were in a room near the kitchens extractor fan. This wasn’t too much of an issue because it was turned off in the late evening when the kitchen closed but might be an issue for anyone wanting an early night.

Great central location

We booked a good-sized room which included a modern private ensuite room with all that you could wish for. Always impressed when you have your own coffee machine in the room. Small snacks supplied along with still and sparkling water. The fabulous continental Breakfast was encouraging you to be overindulgent and allowed many divine eating options. Quiet location with off-street parking. We would choose to stay at the Sally again.

Be warned that if you have loads of luggage, you do have one flight of stairs to fight with to get to your room. I am sure the staff will help you if you do need assistance.

We had to leave our walking boots in the hotel porch which we weren't sure about - there was a risk of them being taken by mistake or deliberately and also it wouldn't have been pleasant for restaurant guests arriving to the smell of our boots

Clean and comfortable stay in Irthington

We spent one night here while walking Hadrian’s Wall path. It was a bit off the path (15 minutes down a hill), but it was worth the detour. Very comfortable rooms, great shower after a long day of walking. The pub was fantastic with delicious dinner and breakfast the next day.

This kind of hospitality that made our Hadrian’s Wall Walk more memorable.

We walked Hadrian’s Wall Path and for us this was the perfect hotel to reach for us because it took only less than 30” walked out off the path. This quiet nice small hotel also serves as bar and restaurant that we had both dinner and breakfast. Food were delicious and freshly cooked. We got 2 rooms that both spacious and good size with a nice touched to put stuff beanie animal on bed to use to signal if you need room to be cleaned or as a doorstop. Each room got different animal that was equally cute. Staff were so welcoming and cheerful that made us felt so comfortable here. I recommend this place to anyone who are looking for the place to stay in Irthington.

Top quality decor throughout.

The property has been refurbished/modernised to the highest standard. The bar, restaurant and garden were immaculate. Parking was free and 20 metres from the door. The bedrooms were exceptionally comfortable and well appointed and the en-suite contained a top quality walk-in shower. Staff were all welcoming and very efficient and the food was excellent.

A local clock chimed throughout the night.
