Great Lake views, lovely room and cafe downstairs provided an excellent meal
Lovely spacious room with all the facilities you could require and a great view over the lake
Tiny bit of noise during the night from equipment in the cafe below

not recommended it’s 2 rooms on top of a pancake restaurant
location is good just it’s 2 rooms on top of a pancake restaurant which is not in the discription
you can hear everything. hard to find, not a sign that indicates that the room is on top of a pan cake restaurant

Very pleasant, everything you could want. Would stay again
The shower and toilet are small and the sinks are difficult to use. A small point and all we could fault it on

Short stay as hub to visit Rotterdam, Kinderdijk, the Hague and Gouda
The views from the bedroom were brilliant. The space you got was fantastic making it very comfortable. It was really worth getting a meal there too, one of the nicest we had in the netherlands. The staff were also very friendly, can't recommend the place enough.

A relaxing stay at a rustic hotel by the lake
Strandgaper is a rustic guest house located beside a lake in a suburb of Rotterdam. If you're up for some cycling, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing or just there to relax by the lake, it's a perfect location. Don't have fancy expectations of a grandoise 5-star hotel because that it certainly is not. I was there for its location and it suited me fine. My room was large, spacious and overlooking the lake. But of course in terms of room amenities it was nowhere near an urban hotel. But would I return? Definitely !!

Oasis of relaxation on a long journey
The location and view, also lovely large room. Food downstairs in the restaurant was very tasty. We'd just come off the ferry and this was the best rest stop for us.

Was looking to be superb but was made appalling by the crappy dinner and the arrogant owners
There was no breakfast so I can't review it. The location is gorgeous, with a beautiful view of the nearby lake. The room was spacious and very clean. I had a calm and quiet night. I don't care too much about interior design so the IKEA fixtures were fine. The stupid shelf above the washbasin was too low so I had to use the sink when I brushed my teeth. If it weren't for the appalling dining experience caused by the very bad food and the arrogance of the chef/owner, my stay would have been really superb.
I mentioned the appalling dining experience above. This is what happened: after I checked in, I wanted a quick dinner, so I walked down to the restaurant and asked the waitress for something with meat and veggies. She went to the kitchen and came back with the chef's recommendation: chicken skewers with peanut sauce and boiled green beans. When I had the first bites, I felt that the chicken was chewy, like it was undercooked or made from frozen meat beyond its expiration date. And the beans had a very bad aftertaste. I rarely send food back, may have done it 3-4 times in my entire life, however, at 55, I had promised myself to not eat anything that feels/tastes dodgy. And this dish definitely tasted dodgy. I politely sent it back to the kitchen and asked the waitress if I could order something better. She came back with the message from the chef: "the dish was good, you should pay for it because it went into the trash." As an aside: that's where it belonged. I replied: "no problem but this will be a bad review". The chef (also one of the owners of the place, as it turned out) walked up another 3 minutes later and beckoned me inside. He told me if I indented to write a bad review about him I should leave his restaurant immediately. I left him standing there. He yelled after me: "I wasn't finished". To which I replied: "I was". Before leaving the restaurant to find a better one, I asked the waitress how much I owed. She told me I didn't need to pay because I was also a guest at the B&B. I found another restaurant nearby and had a great hamburger. However, when I got back to this B&B, I ran into the chef and his wife (the owners of the place) at the bar and they both clamoured that I should pay for the bad dish that I had sent back. They argued the dish was made from fresh ingredients and was good and asserted that the problem was with my taste. I disagreed but paid because was too tired.
