Malika Homestay

The location is the best in the world 5 minutes walk to the best beach in Sri Lanka. The owners are an elderly couple who are very sweet and kind people. The room is very new and clean.

The mattress was very new and high quality but the sheet was not big enough for the bed so it keeps falling off the bed every time I turn over. Someone paid a lot of money for that mattress, they should also pay a little for a proper sheet that fits the mattress. It would be nice to have two pillows instead of only one.

I booked this place for 3 nights initially, but am already staying 2 weeks. The location is great with many restaurants and bars closeby but still extremely quiet (except for the train, which isn't too bad though). The house is surrounded by palmtrees and makes you feel like you're right in the jungle. When I wake up and look out the window, I am looking straight at coconuts, which is just amazing! The host family is very friendly and accomodating. They prepared tea for us and even invited us for dinner. Also the value for money is great!

There isn't much negative to say. Just don't expect too much luxury, like there is no hot water for instance, but you'll barely miss it.

Good location right next to the train station and beach. Staff/owners are very friendly and are doing their best.

They double booked by accident and had to put me in a different building. I didn't have the private bathroom I paid for, and the facilities were poor, even by Sri Lankan standards. There was no shower head, mirror, sink. They said they would give me the WiFi password but never did. They also slightly overcharged me on check out but communication was difficult with them so I just let them have it. I assume the main building is better but I can't say.
