Ch'i Bocól Community Hostel

A fantastic jungle experience not far from Lanquín, with several beautiful natural attractions nearby. The hosts and staff are lovely, exceptionally knowledgeable, and organise guided tours of the surrounding area. It's also a brilliant place to spot rainforest wildlife. I also had the opportunity to work remotely here thanks to their reliable, high-speed Starlink WiFi.

As previously mentioned :) very special place.

Lots of bugs in the shared dorm, much preferred the private room.

The views are UNREAL. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Food was lovely.

The walk from the drop off point is decent but so worth it!

We loved the location and the experience of Chi'Bocol but there excitement and luster of the older reviews was missing. We loved the adventure of getting there, the staff that fed us was nice, and our tour guide was awesome. We loved the experience of Chi'Bocol and hiking to Semuc Champey and tubing back. We were honored to be in the Mayan lands and appreciated the privilege of being able to walk through their ancestral lands.

While we personally experienced no problems, I would not recommend Chi'Bocol to single female travelers. The poster on the wall in the common area seeking nude models by Bold Daniel Photography, the hostel manager, could be triggering for some travelers and gave me a sense of discomfort throughout our stay. I worry about the perception that young female travelers might feel, arriving after a 30-minute hike into the jungle, uncomfortable with Daniel's photography advertisement in the main room, and feeling trapped in the middle of the jungle with no way out until morning. Or maybe they should rebrand the hostel as nudist-friendly, yet I'm not sure the neighbors (all local Maya Q'eqchi) would appreciate that. I truly hope the owners see this message and realize the super special jungle vibe that they created has shifted with an indifferent, middle-aged, non-Spanish speaking, nude photographer running it. I would also feel more comfortable if the bathrooms were a bit more private considering the above situation.
