Casa do Alto is a very large house (750m2) which is located in a 10,000 m² property which includes a large swimming pool (15 x 7.5 m) and 2 outdoor kitchens with barbecue. It is divided into 3 totally separate apartments.
This listing is for the top floor apartment (180 m2 + balcony 7,3 m2): with 2 large suites (each with double bedroom + living room with double sofa bed + full en siute bathroom); 1 additional full bathroom with Jacuzzi; 1 living room with dining area, full kitchen and library. The library can easily be converted into a 3rd bedroom with a large king size sofa bed using screens. Folding beds are available on demand.

Adaúfe is a small village but has all the necessary amenities (pharmacy, health center, analyst (blood, urine, etc.), ATM, gas station, hairdresser, supermarket, cafes, bakery, butcher, etc.). It also has 2 large shopping centers 5 km away, and Braga (3rd Portuguese city) is about 5 km from Casa do Alto. Porto International Airport is only 50 minutes away.
You will need a car to get around, but there is a frequent bus service to Braga and local taxis are also available. Casa do Alto has plenty of parking space.
Casa do Alto is an old renovated stone country house, on a farm, which is nestled in the hillside of the Cavado River Valley. This is not far from the campus of the University of Minho. It has exquisite views from all sides and part of the ancient Roman road to Braga is right at the back gate. The "eira" in stone (or patio where cereals dried) is one of the largest in the Minho region (484 m2) and many memorable events have taken place there.
Casa do Alto is he perfect place to stay as a base to visit this region of Portugal or just relax in the property itself (1 hectare) either in the garden or in the wooded area with oaks, cork oaks, sweet chestnuts among many other varieties of trees. It has 2 outdoor kitchens with barbecue and a large secluded private pool with a magnificent view of the orchard which includes a wide variety of fruit trees such as orange, lemon, mandarin, khaki, apple, pear, fig, cherry, kiwi, grapes, apricot, peach, plum and many others.
There is so much to see around the Minho region and as Casa do Alto is almost in the center of this area, it is an ideal base for this part of the country. Braga (3rd largest city in Portugal), is the largest city near Casa do Alto (5 km), and is an exciting city with many historical sites to visit, such as the oldest cathedral in Portugal. An excellent local and international gastronomy can be enjoyed in the many restaurants available in and around Braga, with a wide range of exquisite wines of which Portugal is renowned.
There is also a "tourist triangle" consisting of the three famous sanctuaries of "Bom Jesus", "Sameiro" and "Stª Marta" which are worth a visit.

Pros: We loved being in the countryside, views, sunsets,birdsong. The hosts were gracious and attentive.Of course the great swimming pool was not on our agenda since it was still cold in March.In the apartment the hosts had made a great effort to supply all “mod cons”plus iron and ironing board, etc. A lovely surprise was the array of foods provided on our arrival. The nearby restaurant Elvira was excellent.Cons: The various kitchen appliances were scattered across the kitchen area and in the room with the water heater, obviously an afterthought of the design.The beds were old and narrow doubles, the pullout couch sagged. The lighting in the living room was glaring.However, overall, the price is right.

Had a marvellous seven days at Casa do Alto . Michael and Tania are fantastic hosts who can't do enough to help you enjoy your stay. From recommending restaurants to letting us know interesting places to visit. They even help us sort out a problem with our hire car.
The apartment has lovely views over the valley and is situated in its own garden of Eden where everything is abundant . It is only a few minutes from Braga by car and around six euro's in an Uber!
It also boasts a large swimming pool which has its own superb over the valley.
Also fantastic showers and bathrooms , its a really luxurious , relaxing experience and would highly recommend

Beautiful apartment in a stone house with stunning view over the valley. Very spacious. Perfect for two couples or a family. Good as a destination or a base for other day trips. Communications with hosts was very good and the food supplies they provided for our first day was very much appreciated. The pool was very large and very refreshing after a day of touring.

The house is high up in the mountains over steep streets. The Caso do Alto on Google Maps slightly deviates from the actual entrance. Use the coordinates given by the owner instead. You arrive at a gate which the owners will open for you. We were warmly greeted by Tania, and her family, and the dog (which they kept on a leash during our stay). The upper apartment, which is next to the owners, has wonderful views from the small balcony. The rooms are very spacious, and they are all airconditioned (although we hardly used it due to the cool breeze in the evenings). The pool is very large, and open to the owners and the renters of the second apartment. It is some stairs away from the apartment.
We had a wonderful bbq at the poolside. In conclusion, we had a wonderful stay, and would definitely stay here again.
