About this cottage rental

A luxury 1 bedroom cottage, regularly upgraded, in the grounds of Rough Close House, separated from the main house by a court yard. All the rooms are seperate, there is a lot of space for two. Accommodation is for 2 adults only. There is ample, easy off road parking.
Visitors may also spot the ospreys which nest on Esthwaite Water. Their nest can be seen from the Coppice lounge normally. The ospreys usually arrive late March or early April and leave at the end of August. They have had chicks each year recently and there are now four nesting pairs in the area.
The property is ideally placed for wide range of activities including walking, mountain biking, fishing, or sight-seeing. Whichever you choose we hope you will enjoy your stay at the Coppice.

Beautiful accommodation in an idyllic setting. Host were very welcoming and made us feel at home. I would highly recommend this accommodation.Only thing to be aware of is the area can be very busy and parking can be difficult and expensive.Very narrow country lanes are challenging when driving around.

The Coppice is a cosy, comfortable cottage with generous rooms for two, an outstanding location, and generous hosts, Geoff and Gill. We were so fortunate to see the osprey every day and sunshine too. A wonderful place to stay.

We were only staying for 2 nights but would like to go back to stay a week next time. Very comfortable and spacious accommodation for two; with 4 good-sized rooms (including the bathroom) it is larger than it appears from the outside. Beautiful situation and I would imagine some good areas for walking nearby although we didn't have time to explore.

We had a fantastic stay at this gem of an apartment! The location was perfect, just a stones throw away from stunning lakes and charming villages. Everything about Coppice was top shelf. Our welcome and introduction to the wonderful cottage, the explanation to the location and what was offered by the locale as well as how everything functioned within the cottage spot on. Gil and Barton were absolutely amazing and the cottage was one of the best stays that we’ve had. The cottage is warm and inviting it has all the necessities that one would need to have a wonderful and complete vacation. It’s location in the lake District makes it ideal for getting around. From the warm greeting to the fresh flowers in the lounge, our arrival at the cottage was great. The accommodation had everything you could need and was clean and comfortable. Geoff and Gill were hospitable without being in any way obtrusive, we definitely felt at home right away. The location was superb and we didn't seem to need to venture very far away to find excellent walks, access to the lakes for our canoe and lovely dinners out. A great place to stay all round, we will be back.

This is a fantastic cottage in a lovely location. There is a very spacious living room, well equipped kitchen and dining area, large comfortable bedroom and a good size bathroom with a shower. It is in lovely grounds and overlooks Esthwaite Water. The hosts Geoff and Gill are very nice and helpful with their knowledge of the area. They provided a welcome pack on our arrival. We enjoyed our little chats with them when we were on our way out each day. We are already thinking of our next visit here. Would highly recommend.

The Coppice is beautifully presented and very quiet and comfy. Gill and Geoff gave us a warm welcome and were helpful throughout. The lovely basket of goodies awaiting us even included some mini Easter eggs! We were lucky to coincide with this year's first sightings of the ospreys - binoculars recommended. We enjoyed our long-overdue return to this part of the Lakes and there were enough breaks in the rain to take advantage of walks - dont miss Tarn Hows - National Trust properties - Hill Top is wonderful - and explore local villages.

This property offers absolutely everything. An extraordinary amount of thoughtfulness has been dedicated to the needs of guests. We were so impressed. Such a quaint, spacious and inviting cottage which was a pleasure to come home to at the end of each day. The owners are absolutely lovely and so approachable and caring. Only 3 or 4 mins drive to the cute village of Hawkeshead where there's a place to have coffee 'n cake, eat or meal or just have a mosey around. There is also a small supermarket and a baker. The next time we return to the Lake District we won't hesitate to stay at Coppice again.

The Coppice is extremely well equipped with top quality fittings throughout. It is spotless and really comfortable. For us it was an excellent location close to major sites in the southern lakes. Geoff and Gill were excellent hosts who were helpful and on hand but never intrusive. We would highly recommend The Coppice.

We had a clear view of an osprey nest and could easily view the bird’s activities through binoculars or telescope. Very friendly, helpful property owners. Lovely welcome pack. Esthwaite is a beautiful private lake that will allow the launching of private solid hull small craft for a fee. But check with Savage Fishing company at the lake in case rules change.

We landed on our feet here. Beautiful, spacious and comfortable cottage with all the amenities we needed - fully equipped dining kitchen, large comfy bed, large bathroom with bath and separate shower. Comfortable living room including a leather recliner perfect for watching the Ospreys on the nest with binoculars. Gill and Geoff were welcoming hosts and gave great tips for walks in the area.

Gill and Geoff the owner are very lovely people and Gill goes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable . She has great knowledge of the areas around and it was never a problem to ask for advice we needed. The Coppice itself was Perfect , extremely clean and the room sizes are ideal for a couple . All linen and towels were provided and the bed was clean and comfortable, Spotless in fact. There is also Wi-Fi and sky TV . They Coppice is perfectly situated overlooking Esthwhaite water with great access to to many surrounding walks , places of interests and the whole lakes network. We would highly recommend a visit to the Coppice and we are already planning a return visit . Thank You Gill and Geoff .

Absolutely perfect place for us to celebrate my wife's 50th. Great scenery and short drives to Ambleside, kendal, Windermere and keswick all under an hour. Clean and well set out. Gill and Geoff the property owners where very nice and help us with places to eat. We'll recommended for a peaceful relaxing place to come back to after exploring the beautiful area.

The accommodation is clean, comfortable and spacious for a one bedroomed cottage. It is beautifully maintained and the decor is in keeping with its character. Sadly, we only had a couple of days to enjoy the peace, quiet and beautiful scenery (wish it had been longer). The Coppice had everything we needed and our host (Gill) was very welcoming. Thank you.

We loved our stay at The Coppice! We certainly didn't want to leave, and plan to return very soon. Everything was perfect, we had a lovely walk from Ambleside over to Elterwater and back. And couldn't wait to get back to our cosy pad.

Gill and Geoff's cottage is just the most wonderful "get away" for anyone wanting to get away from the stress of day-to-day activities. The cottage is easy to get to, but is also secluded and peaceful. The cottage has been furnished to the highest of standards and is SO warm and comforting. Just down the road from Hawkshead village. Gill and Geoff were the most wonderful hosts. After greeting us, they left us to ourselves to enjoy the seclusion and privacy. We can't wait to go back there (when we have time). We arrived later than we expected, but Gill the host, was lovely and very understanding. The cottage was so cosy and clean we where very pleased with it, felt home from home really. Hawkshead village, that isn’t far at all, such a lovely place, a few quaint shops plus pubs and a coop, such a lovely feel about the place. We are definitely going to be staying again, a nice relaxing stay was needed and had.

We had a fantastc week staying at The Coppice . Beautiful cottage with absolutely everything we could possibly need. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Cottage spotless with amazing views. Travelled around the lakes for the week finding lovely places just about everywhere. We would highly recommend staying at The Coppice and would lovve to return maybe in the late spring. This beautiful well equipped cottage is extremely clean, efficient and a pleasure to stay in. We felt we were at home. The bed was so comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed, it was like a tardis, looks tiny on the outside but has more than enough space inside. Enough parking for 2/4 cars and a lovely outlook across fields and trees. Our hosts were so attentive and polite couldn’t do enough and were extremely gracious and easy going when I broke a crystal glass. They are just lovely! It’s so nice that they were there for safety and in case things go wrong! Excellent holiday Hawkshead is lovely the pubs and cafes are fantastic and we were very happy 😊 a relaxing holiday. Thank you Geoff and Gill.
