About this cottage rental

A lovely open plan detached cottage in a rural location. Perfect for couples looking for a quiet and relaxing break, with plenty of walks and cycle routes nearby. All on the Ground Floor:

Private parking for 1 car. No smoking.. If you’re looking for a relaxing break in one of the most beautiful parts of The Lake District National Park, then look no further than Gardeners Cottage. This quaint detached cottage is just a short stroll from the centre of Near Sawrey village and is ideal for couples looking to unwind and use as a base to explore the stunning surroundings. Near Sawrey is located between Lake Windermere and Hawkshead and nestles on the shores of Esthwaite Water. It’s also home to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s former home where the inspiration was drawn for many of her famous tales. Here you are also less than a 5-minute walk from an excellent village pub offering good food and local ales, with an open fire and a real country pub feel to it.

This detached cottage is situated in a small courtyard with greenery at the entrance adding a splash of colour to the stone façade. The ceiling has two Velux style windows which provide plenty of daylight to the interior. This comfortable cottage offers spacious open plan living with a double bed and plenty of seating and storage for your belongings. 3 steps lead down to the kitchen area, which features a breakfast bar and is well-equipped with everything you could need to prepare a hearty breakfast or an evening banquet. There is a shower room with large shower, making this property ideal for a couple’s getaway. The private parking space is directly outside the property and there is an outhouse housing a washing machine, shared with the holiday apartment next door.

The picturesque village has lovely scenery and walks available from your doorstep. Just 2 miles away you’ll find Hawkshead which offers a range of pubs, shops and plenty of independent cafés and coffee shops. Here you are just a short drive from the Windermere car ferry, which in just 10 minutes takes you across the Lake to Bowness-on-Windermere with an abundance of shops, bars, restaurants. Take the steamer across the lake to Ambleside in the north and Lakeside in the south which connects to The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Here you are close to Grizedale Forest with lots of woodland walks, cycle routes and a high rope adventure course, great fun for adults! For golfers, you can access Windermere Golf Course in a short drive as well as Esthwaite Trout Fishery which is just 1 mile away. Beach ¾ miles.

Ideal if you have a small dog, lots of lovely scenic walks around Esthwaite lake and a ferry ride if you fancy Windermere. Hawkshead village is 2 miles round the lake, The Honey pot has lots of fresh food, and Beatrix Potter house is in the same village of Sawrey.This was our third visit to this accommodation and we had a very relaxing stay, the entrance to the courtyard is a bit narrow but there is also parking a few yards down. Thank you

The property was excellent. The drive is too narrow for big cars, but you are able to park off-road on the owners drive nextdoor. Poor communication from Cottage.com about access with keys.
