San Biagio Materapartment

We spent one night at San Biagio Materapartment, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The location is absolute perfection, situated right in the center of the historic old town, making it incredibly easy to walk around and explore the stunning streets of Matera. The highlight of the apartment is undeniably the spectacular view. Waking up to and taking in such magnificent sights was magical. Everything about our stay was lovely, comfortable, and seamless. If you are visiting Matera, I highly recommend staying here!

The only small thing to note is that the kitchenette could be a bit better equipped, but for a short stay, it wasn't a big deal.

Large unique cave accommodations. Staff went above and beyond to assist us. When we had Wi-Fi problems, their staff came over right away and repaired the problem.

Very nice location with a stunning view and great rooftop

While we enjoyed our stay overall, there are a few points that could be improved. The main issue was that, upon arrival, there was no electricity. As a result, the air conditioning wasn't working, which made the upstairs bedroom almost unbearable in the 40°C heat. We had to call the host, but unfortunately there was a language barrier as they didn't speak English. Thankfully, they called us back and arranged for a young English-speaking person to guide us through rebooting the entire electrical system over the phone. Once it was reset, everything worked fine, but it gave the impression that this might be a recurring issue. The bathroom also needs attention. There is a large hole in the shower drain that has simply been covered with a plastic shower mat. It didn't feel very hygienic and seemed to be there to prevent insects from coming up the drain. A proper repair would make a big difference. Another small disappointment was the kitchen. In Italy, we were surprised that there wasn't even a single coffee capsule or tea bag provided. It's a small gesture that makes guests feel welcome, especially after a long journey. Finally, while the main bedroom is beautiful with its charming vaulted ceiling, the mattress is very uncomfortable, particularly on one side, and could really benefit from being replaced. Fortunately, these are all relatively minor issues that could be fixed quite easily. With a few improvements, this property could easily deserve an even higher rating because it has a lot of charm and potential.

Very nice location, quite spacious and somewhat comfy beds

The host said they will meet us for check-in and we communicated our arrival time. We got there and no one was waiting for us. I decided to message and got no reply. Eventually called them and it sounded like I just woke them up. They sent a video with the check-in details. Not the best experience, especially with heavy luggage on you. Could be much cleaner. The bedroom door and front door are made from wood and have expanded quite a lot from the moisture, they are impossible to open "nicely". You have to really slam them. Found a used coffee pod in the coffee machine, the kettle and the fridge were not cleaned in a while. The AC units had a musty smell and their filters were covered in dust. Only one remote shared for two units.
