Stafford House

The location was great short walk to the beach.

The location was great - not only for us visiting nearby family, but also easy walking distance to sea front. The house is quirky - a grand georgian terrace town house split into two duplex appartments (sometime around the 1950s i suspect preplanning and building regs!). You get loads of space - which suited us very well and make it excellent value - but the layout is somewhat 'eccentric' with the rooms essentially in a line front to back of the house, and 2nd bedroom up a steep flight of stairs (fine for us with teens, but smaller kids might feel too far from parents). The decor is a time capsule of the last 100 years (and some beautiful original ceilings in the front), with many mobility aids/adaptations. Our host was lovely and lives upstairs - do let her know when you will arrive so she can listen out to give you the keys. There were lots of welcoming notes and advice. Kitchen is more modern than rest of the rooms and very clean. There is a great reading selection in the generous living room. The front is lovely and sunny too with huge bay window. The beds were comfy and we all slept well. The garden is an absolute gem - climbing roses in glorious bloom, and a fox cub visiting both evenings.

It is well equipt, but not modern. It feels very much like staying at your Nan's house or carehome - indeed my own grandmother had the exact same carpet, dresser, convex mirrors, deco fireplace and green plates! I thought my teenagers would be disparaging, but they were actually facinated by the retro 30s, 50s, and 80s features, and said it was like being in our own episode of Back in Time for Tea. Parking is on-street; it wasnt too difficult to get a space over our weekend, although it was up the road a bit. There is a tower block across the street which isnt the prettiest view, but was quite a useful landmark when walking back from the beach.

The house is close to the sea, big garden, full equipped kitchen, the host was very nice.

Mary, who owns the property, lives upstairs. She is so helpful, such a nice lady. I really like vintage and this apartment is like a time capsule of the 1950s/60s. The garden is a beautiful little haven. Literally two minutes walk to the beach and Mary has a beach hut you can use! The decor isn't everyone taste but the size of the apartment and location make up for the dated decor. I liked it though it felt like staying at a grandparents house. Brand new hair dryer in draw and Mary offered to get me milk if I want a hot drink. She has left notes for WiFi login, the local bus information etc. I would stay again.

The pillows and duvet were feathers inside. Turned out I was allergic but sorted with antihistamines.
