Pension zum Lichtenberger

I had a very pleasant 3 night stay at the Pension Zum Lichtenberger. I’ve heard horror stories of Berlin, so before I even brought my bags in the first the I did was strip the bed to foam looking for any evidence of bedbugs. I found none, so I searched the area around the fridge for any sign of riches or moths. Again, everything was very clean. I went to bring in my bags and noticed the neighbors were playing very loud (and unskilled) metal music. I thought that might be an issue because I was on the courtyard and I’m a light sleeper (and hate when metal is played badly), but as soon as the door was closed the room was quiet. Overall, clean, tidy, surprisingly good amenities, good location near stores and public transit. I was very satisfied with the stay.

The check in was a little unclear. I arrived delayed (DB) and there was no staff, so I relied on the key dispenser. This required about ten tries before it actually gave me a key. In other stays I’ve had, they supplied photos and videos of how to access the rooms. I think that would be helpful here.

Comfortable and quiet appartment building near the Lichtenberg Station. Spacious and clean room with seating area, tv, a refrigerator and a water kettle. We sat with the friendly owner on a cosy covered terrace behind the house.

The property is located in a very nice quiet area very close to S-bahn and in 20 minutes ride to the center. My room's windows looked into the yard and it was quiet at night. The room was cosy, the bed was OK.

I had big problems with entering the property. One day before the flight I received a letter from the Pension with the entrance code and room No. When I arrived at the property ( apprx. 9 p.m.) I tried to enter the sent code but there was no key. I called the tel No, provided by the property. The gentleman who talked to me ( his English was very poor and it was hard for him to understand me) told me that the message I received was not from him but from Booking (!) and the code was wrong. He told me another code and I managed to get the keys. The first key entered the gate and then I started looking for my room. It turned out that the room number (23) also was wrong - so the gentlemen told me to go to the room 13. I was unable to open the door - so again I received a lot of advice without any result. I started panicking ( the light was going off all the time ) and told this gentleman that I need help! After several minutes later a person (who said that he is a Hausmaster ) went down the upper floor and showed me how to open the door ( a special twist of the key and a certain pressure was needed). Next day I went to the Pension reception and showed the gentleman (with whom I spoke last night) his message with a code and room number and asked him - what is wrong? Is it really Booking to blame? He answered that he just changed the room. No apologies! I am writing all this to help other travelers that might be in a similar situation at night in the dark with nobody in sight trying to get into the property you have paid for in full!
