Located in the heart of Rye’s historic citadel area, this cottage is ideally situated for exploring the town and accessing the surrounding coast and countryside. Built in 1483, the cottage boasts a wealth of original features, beams and fireplaces – alongside newly refurbished kitchen and bathrooms. In recent history, the property has been owned by a string of artists - hence the name of the cottage - with an art gallery in the front room (now a modern games room). Looking further back, the beautiful arch on the wall of the main living room is thought to be the remains of an ancient bread oven! Rye itself is an endearing place. Whether you are looking for historic sites, local beaches, beautiful nature reserves, child friendly attractions, famous golf courses, romantic restaurants, delicious cream teas, or some of the oldest pubs in England, it could be for you.

Perfect location for exploring the historic town of Rye. Ample parking is just a short walk away from the property. Lots of interesting things to do and plenty of good places to eat.

We all absolutely loved staying in this house. The photos really don’t do it justice, it is steeped in history, was very clean and has just a wonderful feel to it. Everything you could need for a stay in Rye, we were very comfortable. Even my 6ft 2” husband! Although in some places the ceilings and doorframes are low, expected in a gorgeous period property, he was fine for a couple of days and the charm of the place makes up for stooping in some places….! The en-suite bathroom is a challenge, even for me at 5ft 3”, but doable and there is another lovely bathroom across the hall which has the shower we all used anyway.
The location is ideal, a short walk to everything you could need. Parking was easy, and cheap-only £2.50 for 24 hours in a car park a five minute walk away. Would absolutely recommend this place for a stay in Rye (and already have to friends!) thank you.

Perfectly located to venture out for shopping and dining, this half-timbered cottage on The Mint gives you an authentic experience of living spaces in centuries past. Do, however, mind your head!
