Guesthouse Okagesan

This is a truly traditional Japanese house. It is filled with typical memorabilia and antiquities that make exploring the house a real pleasure. The place is well placed: 10 minutes away by foot from 2 of the main Onsen in the area.The owner is absolutely amazing and so are his cooking skills. You absolutely should try his yakitori restaurant, 1 minute away from the house. The best lodging experience we have had in all our travels to Japan and we have done a few all over the Kansai region. It is not for the glamourous and the people that do not like authenticity but for those who want to experience real Japanese life in the countryside, this is the perfect place.

Absolutely amazing idyllic place! If you want to experience a sense of the old Japan, this is definitely a must-stay! We loved everything about it, especially the peace and quiet and the birds that come to be fed by hand. Unforgettable. The owner is very friendly and helpful and runs a little restaurant nearby. We were hiking and had to check out very early the next morning and he surprised us by driving up to the bus stop at 6:30 in the morning to give us rice balls for our onward journey. Such a lovely gesture! Wish we could have stayed longer!
