The massive bed was excellent; very comfy. Very good shower. Very quiet area (apart from the birds!). Easy reach of York centre. The DIY continental breakfast was a bonus and unexpected, but plenty of choice with a well-equipped kitchen area. Maggie was very helpful and informative.
Only problem for us was the creaky floorboards. We were downstairs and when people move around in the room above it does creak a lot. That said, it did not disturb our sleep, and it would be hard to prevent in a building like this.

Maggie is a lovely, friendly host. The room was very comfortable. The bathroom benefitted from a fabulous shower. The breakfast was just what we needed - and being able to self-serve suited us very well. We were unlucky with our noisy upstairs neighbour but would happily try again another time.

There was no breakfast with the room but there are self-service facilities to have a hot drink, orange juice, cereal, toast, yoghuts. Which for me was plenty before leaving. The breakfast room was lovely overlooking the garden. Room was very nice and comfy.
The shower was tiny, not a problem for me as I am petite, but someone larger would struggle. You also can hear the next room clearly. For my stay was not a problem as they were quiet guests but it could be if you had difficult people.
