Hotel de L Orange

Good ambiance. Original feel.

This is not a modern hotel, its a restored 17th mansion, a cross between a grand family home and a miniature castle. Lovely thick stone walls, and shuttered windows keep the rooms cool so no need for aircon. It has been wonderfully decorated by Tom and Liz, with beautiful gardens and a pool on the rooftop with spectacular views and plenty of places to chill... Loved the location, easy walk into the town centre - you get a good view of the Sommieres rooftops from the pool area. Breakfast was a wonderful mix of fresh fruits, viennoiserie, a selection of breads, home made jams and marmalade and local honey. All of this served in the garden on tables decorated with lovely tablecloths and crockery.

Really difficult to find anything I didn't like. Perhaps the only comment I would make is that I missed my eggs at breakfast. Whilst I loved what we had, I crave protein in the morning (eggs, ham, cheese, etc)..

The room was large and the bed was comfortable.

Breakfast is served as a matter of course, quite late at 9. This does affect your day. There is poor lighting in the rooms. Also a very noticeable musty (garlicky?) and unpleasant odour in the common area and hallways. This is not due to the age of the house! Also, be aware there are limited facilities in the room. We did not think that this hotel warranted a 3 star rating. The pictures are not accurate. Wallpaper is peeling, for instance. Shower facilities are old. The house is lovely but fading.
