Its a bit of a trek across the city to the main tourist area, but there are buses available.

The room wasn't big but for Paris it was fine. It was close to the main train station. You could walk to the Gaîté area and many restaurants/bars. I could leave my suitcase all day and the staff was very amiable.
Despite the double glass windows, there was still a little noise from the avenue, but nothing impossible either.
The shower was very small and it was easy to bang your elbows on the walls. The drainage wasn't good.
