Splendid traditional country inn with good old-fashioned service, excellent onsen quality and satisfying meals using local ingredients.
All good

I have stayed in many ryokan over the years. In spite of the recent trend for ryokan to economise - leading to a reduction in the kind of detailed service that makes a ryokan stay so special - Rankeisou is doing its very best to protect the integrity of the country inn tradition for a deeply satisfying stay. The onsen water here apparently has very special qualities and I thoroughly enjoyed both the big and private baths - the water feels marvellous. Also praise to the chef for the beauty, variety and honesty of his meals - with skilful use of local ingredients. Our room was spacious with an exhilarating view of the fast flowing river. I especially loved the care taken to display fresh flowers of the season round every corner of the intriguing winding corridors.
Absolutely nothing to complain about.

A classic Japanese onsen hotel with great facilities and wonderful meals. You can visit easily with the shuttle bus arranged by the hotel. Located in the middle of mountains area which makes it a perfect place to slow down and unwind.
The sound of the ventilation (or heating) in the room was too loud to sleep.
