It was basically OK, interesting history.

However, food in the resturant is VERY expensive. I was the only person dining and I am sure price put off other guests? I also feel £89 per night for a small box room with a single bed is pricy?

A bit of TLC Needed in zplaces

The building is lovely. The restaurant was great. The grounds and the views.

The breakfast was a dissapointment especially after eating the night before in the restaurant - i had high rcpectaions of bteskfast - nut was poor. Also 09:30 cut off and only 10:00 at weekend. Views lovely but window frames framing the views from our room were black with rot. It needs a bit of tlc in places.

Luxurious, warm, friendly historic house. Difficult to beat!

We love Carberry tower and have been often. Very historic building with yesteryear charm, very comfortable, relaxing surroundings and warm, helpful, friendly staff. The new look restaurant was lovely. Much prefer it to the campaign bistro. Our meal was delicious. We stayed in three different suites, all were luxurious and a real treat. A rare family gathering and could not have enjoyed it more. Never disappointed and will always be our destination of choice.

Don’t bother.

Whilst this property commands a high price tag it certainly does’nt deliver. Read the other reviews, they are much of the same. Unprofessional staff, dirty windows, cobwebs, grubby furnishings, no fridges in the rooms, heaters turned off by the property at night and the breakfast has to be seen to be believed!!!!

Very Unique

Our rooms were beautiful. Loved exploring the gardens and the many rooms in the House. Breakfast was lovely. It was exciting to stay in accommodation so unique. Well worth a stay.

Small issue with water leak and they said maintenance would fix. We were leaving with some wet clothes. A dryer was offered but because we were leaving couldn't use.

Pricey for what we got - for over £210 for the night an attic room with filthy windows & a canted ceiling so you couldn’t walk upright to move around the bed. No kettle & water in the beverage machine nowhere near hot enough for tea. Food ho hum in the restaurant and at breakfast bacon so precooked it was tough to cut.

Nice but would expect a bit better for the price

The grounds are lovely and the mansion has loads of character. The library in particular is lovely.

Although the room was well appointed and quiet, there were small things that let it down. The wash basin and shower were very small. The bed was short which made it uncomfortable for my husband. There was some mould around the seal of the shower. The food at the restaurant wasn’t up to scratch. Our starters were nice but my main of ratatouille was undercooked.

Great old bulding in a lovely setting.

It is a grand old building to be in and the various lounge/drawing rooms were lovely. The restaurant was very good, great service and food. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The bedroom with en-suite we had was very small and it was looking tired. Our room need a freshen up, maybe a coat of paint. The en-suite was a one person only at a time small, but it did all work well. I felt the room was overpriced but I guess you have to allow for the upkeep of this property.

We stayed for just one night and wish we stayed longer, the grounds are beautiful and the mansion stunning. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. We had a lovely dinner at the mansion, and enjoyed a very nice breakfast with a wide variety of choices.

We liked it all, can't think of anything we didn't like. Maybe the size of the shower in our room it was a wee bit tiny and it took a very long time to get hot water there. Not really a big deal, the hot water eventually reached us.

We expected better room accommodation for the price we paid but were disappointed.

Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside and gardens from our bedroom windows.

Room and furnishings a bit tired and paintwork could use some attention. Carpet clean and room refurb would not go amiss. Sink in bathroom was cracked.

Good stay

Lovely clean rooms, comfortable beds and amazing pillows. The whole place is very well kept for a 500+ year old building. Staff were absolutely fantastic and could not fault them with every interaction we had...5*

Unfortunately there was no water when we arrived, not the fault of the hotel but was catered for with bottled water bought in. The room was stifling hot as it was the hottest day of the year, there was a fan supplied in the room but it didn't really help. Shower pressure was poor and felt like a dribble.

Breakfast was excellent. Room and bed was wonderful with a great large bathroom and shower. Lovely reception rooms and library - shame it wasn't put to more use for residents.

Dinner wasn't great - very ordinary I'm afraid. We probably won't eat in the restaurant when we return.

Gorgeous, you have to walk around.

It was a beautiful property. We walked around the whole grounds. Many old, old trees, it was just gorgeous. Inside the library was a place we could have stayed for hours.

Lacks investment

The freedom to explore the venue. Evenings relaxing in the library and the music rooms. Front of house staff were welcoming and friendly.

Although upgraded to an executive room, there appeared to be a lack of general maintenance in the room. Signs of damp, scuffed paint work, shower grout discoloured, television channels unwatchable. Untrained staff in the dining room, toasted brioche was burnt and tasted bitter. We reported a health and safety issue in the grounds, a wooden walkway over the reed beds was rotten and unsafe. Unfortunately, we thought it was over priced.

Incredible, restful stay

I loved the overall experience I had at Carberry Tower, it was a beautiful and calming place to stay, my wife and I are already planning our return! We had both dinner and breakfast on site, the food was great and ! was really happy with the overall experience.

The location is around 15/20 minutes taxi to the royal mile and central Edinburgh but this really shouldn't put you off staying here, it is completely worth it to stay in such an incredible calming site.
