I got in late, and had requested a room that wasn't hosed down with the deodorizer you use when someone has smoked in the room. My first night was ok; the deodorizer was very faint, like it may have been residual from the previous day. I can't tolerate cigarette smoke or strong cleaners, which make me ill. I came back to the lobby after getting settled in the room for some hot water to make some tea, and the red-haired lady who was coming on for the graveyard shift, from 11 PM to 7 AM, was very helpful and sweet. She understands the concept of "hospitality" being the operative word in the hotel business. In the morning, the 7 AM-3 PM front desk lady was professional and courteous; I remember her from a previous stay, and she was great then also.
On my first night there, the middle shift (3-11 PM) front desk lady was just shy of being rude. When I asked if there was a hot water dispenser to make some tea, she said, "I wouldn't know." As a former waitress, I get that everyone can have a rough day, and gave her the benefit of the doubt because I also realized that she might be new, and truly didn't know. But on my return trip, she actually rolled her eyes and shook her head when I asked if she'd checked the deodorizer situation in my room for the night, and she responded that she had not. The room actually had been sprayed and I had to change rooms. Luckily for me, there was another room that was not sprayed with that spray, and I had a comfortable stay that night. I usually don't leave negative reviews for people, preferring to give them the benefit of the doubt, but having such a sour attitude on consecutive nights makes me think that the hospitality business might not be the job for this person. Interacting with people who have legitimate issues is not her strong suit, and she should have a sit down with a supervisor who can explain how important attitude is in the hospitality business.
