Not much to expect from a 2-star

Room is spacious. Pressure in the shower is good. Location is close to many wineries.

The A/C was very noisy and despite setting it to the max, it didn't warm up the room enough. Decor is very outdated and the room, while big, doesn't feel cozy. The motel has a lot of potemtial, but in the current conditions does not have any charm.

Great Retro Motel ✨

Great retro motel … in the heart of St. Helena facing a Vineyard. Had a good night stay after a long day visiting wineries. Robert Mondavi, Opus One & Camus winery’s close to El Bonita.

Great proximity to the hospital

Overall, it was a really great room with inside hot tea/coffee maker, small fridge and microwave with a fairly comfy bed. We had a total of three windows which was awesome, as was the firepit out back and pool with a jacuzzi out front.

Was staying at El Bonita for pre-op prep and to be close to Coon Institute for surgery the following morning. The bathroom shower though beautiful, it hardly had any water pressure to feel decently clean and there weren't but a very few places there to hang multiple towels out to dry. It is on a noisy street that quiets later in the evening.

The hot tub and pool were really nice. The room was okay.

I wasn't able to watch Hulu from my phone to the TV. I also think they should have a different kind of coffee. It was so strong I couldn't drink it. I didn't like the slats on the door. The light was coming through.

Over priced by allot !!, staff was rude as soon as I walked in the door told me to go sit down!! The Spa was nasty , need to be cleaned badly the pool was ok I guess but the shower was very nice though, room smelled like pant very strongly the bed was like a gym mat material like the ones in high school, I worked 16 hours so I could’ve slept on the floor and not known the difference so I can really say how comfortable the bed was any ways if the whole town wasn’t sold out I would stayed at a much nicer place for the same price ! Very disappointed

Good location for a wine tour.

Spacious room with a comfy chair (really important). Well equipped with Aircon; Microwave and coffee machine. Smallish but adequate bathroom with nice towels and cleaning products, Plenty of power in the shower. Light breakfast with some fresh fruit, so healthy. Very well located for top wineries - possible to walk to Hall and Inglenook and also local restaurants

Aircon is unavoidably a little noisy. Refrigerator was also quite noisy. Some traffic noise as close to main road through St Helena

Loved loved the location! The rooms were freshly renovated, which made the place feel clean. Also, no carpet which is great for people with pets, plus nice grassy area in the back, also ideal for pets. Cozy fire pit in back too. Friendly staff!

Will be going there again.

The room was very clean. Noticed a lot of attention to detail with workers on the property painting, landscaping very good. The continental breakfast was standard. the outside seating area with a waterfall was excellent. A retro art deco motel was refreshing to see. The swimming pool ( heated above 80 degrees and very clean with an adjacent hot tub next to a sauna was a pleasant surprise. Parking is close to our unit. king bed and a patio newly landscaped was a pleasant surprise. The cost was hundreds of dollars less than adjacent inns etc. Good location can walk to some of the wineries. Its not perfect but the owners are keeping the motel with ample landscaping, trees walkways tables benches to make the motel a good choice for budget minded people.

We paid for a King bed unit deluxe which included a patio and chairs. When assigned a room we noticed no rear patio only a front door directly in front of our unit. Went back to check in and after some brief conversation the owner was contacted by phone and we were assigned the unit we paid for. They have a building called the garden rooms but no garden or patio in line with what our reservations stated. The 3 story building called Homestead all bottom floors have rear patios and a garden view . For the price half on other inns in the area is well worth it. No complaints.

Nice stay. Cozy and quiet.

Nice interior. Pretty quiet at night which I really appreciated since I stayed for work, and I had to wake up pretty early. The hotel continental breakfast was better than I thought. Love the fresh fruits. Walking distance to restaurants and grocery with a nice view along the way.

The bedsheet had rough surface. Doesn’t bother me too much, but I think some bedsheet needs replacement.

Oasis on the edge of St Helena

The room was updated Retro Chic, had a table with chairs for eating etc, plus a big comfortable chair to relax in, along with the normal amenities. WE loved going to the pool and hot tub both days we were there which was really beautiful area and relaxing. The location was great, just several blocks or so from downtown St. Helena and convenient to shopping, wineries etc. We enjoyed the simple breakfast items plus coffee and juice, fruit in the mornings. This was a nice surprise!

The lights in the bathroom were really tricky to turn off and on, so we ended up using the mirror light the most, but were fine.

No hangers in the rooms! None available. At $470 a night, you think you would have hangers. Asked for two extra pillows and front desk grumpy guy said he didn’t have any. The sweet housekeeper found us some.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and all of us said we would stay here again.

While it is older and rustic, it’s very charming. The grounds are lovely and well-kept. The trees and flowers on the property are beautiful. There are two fire pits and lots of outdoor areas to relax. It’s been recently updated so the beds are comfortable, the shower/tub was a good size. There is a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator. There are drinking and wine glasses and a corkscrew.

The second and third days there was not enough food at the complimentary continental breakfast. We were told that since the remodel the management did not know how many people to expect and did not get enough food. They called someone to run to the store but even then there was not enough. We were in town for the Andrea Bocelli concert nearby so they should’ve anticipated this. The only other thing was the traffic noise that can be heard when you are outside. We couldn’t hear it in our rooms as we were at the back of the property. The refrigerators could be upgraded.

Clean, basic. Excellent location.

Surprisingly quiet for the location right off hwy. Couldn't ask for a better location. And the room was newly remodeled and clean if austere and tiny. Bed was comfortable and AC kept humming along.

Appreciated the continental breakfast, which was quite minimal. However, the grapes and sweet strawberries made up for it. Also, work was being done, and we had to pull shades given the worker's proximity. And even though it didn't bother us as we were early risers, they started hammering away at about 7:30 Sunday morning. None of that would deter me from returning again, though.

I love this little place. The garden in the back is quite peaceful for being so close to the highway.

I was put on the second floor, even though I’d requested a ground floor when I booked two months prior. Also, the breakfast opened later than promised. As I was on a work schedule, I had to go without.

A future hidden gem in the heart of Napa?

Property is currently undergoing a complete renovation (which didn't affect us in the least) and has a great deal of potential. The location is convenient to St Helena and enjoying the Napa Valley, and will hopefully remain a good budget option (relatively speaking) in the area. If so, it could be quite the hidden gem. Beds were comfortable, the rooms are good size, and parking is easy and ample. We would definitely visit again.

Amenities are basic but exceeded expectations for a motel, the outdoor spaces spread around the property are particularly nice.

St. Helena is an expensive place to stay. El Bonita’s rates are more reasonable

Liked the murals all around the facility. Room with two queens was spacious and comfortable

The employee who checked us in was less than friendly. I called the front desk from our room because the WiFi password wasn’t working and was told that the office’s WiFi was functioning. When I took my phone to the office to ask her to input the password she told me that the password had changed from what was printed on the key card sleeve. No apology offered.

If location is your only metric for a 'good' place to stay it's here...otherwise look elsewhere.

Check in was easy, property had more than 1 floor with no elevator or suitcase trollys so it was unload at the car and walk everything in. Had we known we would have requested a first floor due to one person having a very large suitcase. Fridge and microwave in the room with 2 queen beds.

Their continental breakfast was extremely limited. Our first room (2 queen beds) had a broken air conditioner that sounded like a jet was landing in the room, cable tv box was completely disconnected which we later discovered was due to the brightness of the "connected" light. Overall the room was clean. Overnight when we were asleep and assuming the ac was set to 65 it kept resetting to 75 - 80 degrees every 30 minutes which made sleeping near impossible. Day 2 we were switched to a 3rd floor king suite, they helped with bags which was nice. That room had 2 thermostats (one in the living room and one in the bedroom), each thermostat kept resetting every 30 - 60 mins at a minimum of 75 degrees. I can see that when the rooms are NOT in use, when you have guests that needs to be under their control. Would I stay here again? No. The issues with the thermostat and ac being broken was enough for me. Overpriced for what it was.

Loved El Bonita.

The amenities, real coffee cups and glasses not paper or plastic. The refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave were all nice to have. The bedding was clean and comfortable.

It was good.

Room was spacious, looked clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. It was quiet. The croissant was my highlight.

My weekend stay was expensive, but I guess that is due to the location. For the price of the room, breakfast should have been more than just cold food.
