Good location in downtown La Jolla
Very, very rundown

The location
The smell of the rooms and hotel, the loud AC, The staff (waiters) not really friendly, the room wasn’t really super clean, insects in the bathroom, broken window lock, hotel is very old and needs some renovation, tv was not even center to bed but rather on the side not convenient at all, they charged health care fees on bill at the restaurant….one night was really enough.

The ocean view from classic ocean view king room was really gorgeous.
The food in the breakfast restaurant was not that good.

I can't think of anything I didn't like.

Beautiful hotel. Perfect location super close to beach - could hear the waves from our bedroom which was wonderful. The staff - honestly incredible. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out everyone couldn’t have been more helpful

The location was fantastic. The barman at the pool was attentive and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
The room was a little expensive

The location was perfect. One street removed from the beach front (but you will have to go down a large/long set of steps or a steep hill if you have mobility needs it might be a challenge). And right in the heart of shopping and amazing dinning options all within a ten min walk max to the farthest edge.
The pool is lovely with a stunning view of the ocean. It also has a pool bar if you’d like drinks or a snack.
The main restaurant (breakfast, lunch, dinner) was good if pretty expensive.
With this hotel you’re definitely paying a premium for the location, so be okay with that before anything else.
We were put in the building next door from the main (and lovely) building which was a bummer. It very much looked like a converted apartment building. As someone who adores hotels and hotel lobbies it was a shame I missed out on that as the building next door has a small side entrance and exit by the maintenance shed so you lose the vintage vibes of the rest of the hotel.
There were small issues in the room too that just didn’t reflect the high nightly price. Examples are:
- Hairdryer was a very small and cheap plastic mini one that kept cutting in an out while using it
- The hotel phone didn’t work and kept disconnecting
- The conditioner and shampoo refillable bottles were broken and we couldn’t get anything out of them
- The TV was a 90 degree angle from the way the bed faced and it just made no sense, it gave us neck pain when had had to turn our heads sideways to watch it
- Most of the charging ports on the side of the bed didn’t work
- There was no central AC, just a big and slightly loud unit that was attached and stuck out from the wall
Overall it felt like a $200/$250 per night value but because it’s on the ocean and in such a desirable location I paid well over double that during my stay in April

The staff were very nice and helpful. Excellent, kind service is no longer common when traveling, but not so at La Valencia. We felt comfortable and it was indeed a good value.

The hotel was stylish, classy, and perfectly located.
The room felt moist, for lack of a better word. Not humid, because it wasn't hot or warm. But like you were never completely dry.

Location
The hotel is a business optimized for profit, I did not feel that customer satisfaction was a priority.

View was superb. We were upgraded to a suite with a view which was beautiful. One night there was a very loud TV above but the staff could not get the clients to turn it off. I was given a discount for the disturbance which was very much appreciated. Staff was the best!
Noise from the neighbor.

We love the property and the location to the water. From the minute we arrived, until the minute we pulled out of valet parking, we were well cared for.

I think the property is a little tired. The location is perfect and the old world style great. Just needs a little upgrade.

Staff was friendly helpful gracious. Food was excellent. View and location exceptional.
this hotel is in desperate need of renovation with the exception of certain amenities in the actual rooms. Coffee maker was not even working outdated unclean. I saw rust in multiple locations on ironworks and I saw a very dangerous railing that was below code near the fire ladder near the elevator on the third floor which must be looked at. From the restaurant looking at the beautiful view I could see the patios adjacent. Underneath those patios from the bedrooms appear to be significant water damage could result in failure. Overall the hotel is in desperate need of a remodel and if not a remodel someone needs to go over it top to bottom and fix all the issues.

Can't beat the location and view from the pool area
The pool needed to be cleaned much more regularly, with lots of debris in the water. Water also had a cloudy look to it
