Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa

We stayed for one night so some of the hotel's features & amenities we didn't get to use. The room was comfortable, the bathroom a little dated but hey, it's a bathroom and worked just fine. The location in the park was amazing for us as we got to spend the day walking to the springs. It was far enough away from downtown to be quiet, but close enough that a quick 10 minute drive brought us to all the attractions there. We would go back to this hotel and certainly recommend it.

My 2 night stay was disappointing. Actually thought of canceling the second night but had made plans to explore the town and surrounding area and not sure of their cancellation policy. As I entered, I expected a congenial, and charming old fashioned hotel. However, when checking in, there was a wedding that took over the lobby. It was so noisy you couldn't hear the person at the front desk and was told it might be difficult to get to the tavern/bar since the wedding guests were there too. (I was looking to unwind with a glass of wine after a terrible drive up 87 in the rain). Not a great start to my getaway. Warning! Walls are paper thin. I could hear the people next door as if they were in my room. I could hear sniffling! And it was obviously some of the bride's wedding party and could hear their entire conversations. I had to turn down the thermostat to create white noise to be able to sleep. Touting themselves as a retreat/spa and at these prices I would expect a continental type breakfast. You do get a keurig coffee maker and 2 keurig cups of caffeinated coffee. Their website says newspaper(s) available - nope. Lastly, to really not impress me, I had to ask at the front desk for my room to be refreshed. Once done, all they did was give 2 more kureg cups of coffee No clearing of used cups, pods, or refiling toilet paper. They advertise and make a point to recognize the antiquated charming bathrooms, but the bathtub and shower is something from bath-fitter - very plastic-y and just out of character. Holes in the wall. No one was manning the small shop. If I ever visit Saratoga Springs again I will look for an alternative place. (parking is far, no valets, made for a miserable walk in the rain with my bags. I assume the wedding party took all the spots closest to the path up to the building.)

Spent 3 nights at the charming Gideon Putnam. The hotel location is in the heart of beautiful Saratoga Spa State Park, surrounded by walking trails through majestic pines, a golf course, and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. And only a 5 minute drive to downtown where you can shop, drink and eat to your heart’s delight. Oh, and the most dog friendly hotel if you have furry friends. Highly recommend!
