The staff were very friendly and the location was great. We loved the option for bedding preference, and the room and our stay were comfortable for the most part.
The lighting throughout the entire property is horrible - bright, harsh cold white light everywhere. This tiny detail makes a huge difference in the overall warmth and comfort of the rooms and facilities. The lighting is perfect for open heart surgery but terrible for rest and relaxation. The only warm light is across the front of the property as seen from the street…everything else is like intense stadium lighting. While the room was comfortable, the commercial carpet tiles were badly stained and there was a strong smell upon entering the room. The furnishings and color pallet are very dated and in need of updates. The property has plenty of potential but the new owners need to focus on making necessary updates and improvements. Also, everything now has an extra cost…from the bottled water in the room to $4 refills for a tiny cup of drip coffee. Daily housekeeping is also not provided under the disguise of environmental concerns with the convenience of improved profit margins. We don’t need new towels and bedding everyday, but it would be nice to have someone to tidy up the room…which is the minimum one would expect from a hotel stay. If the new owners wish to maintain the favorable reputation that has been built up over the years, they need to make sure not to let greed take the best of them.

I loved the location of this property in walking distance to a lot of good restaurants. I also enjoyed the attached Cafe Italiano- great breakfast and excellent customer service.

Location
Low season - so desk only open 7am-12pm - they were available by phone after noon, which we needed to use. Restaurant being remodeled so “breakfast” (which was a $14 voucher per person) was only available 2 blocks away at an outdoor food truck. Winter temps in 30’s-40’s in the mornings and one morning with falling snow. Most menu breakfast sandwiches were priced such that if you wanted a beverage you needed to pay extra.
