    The Benson is a classic hotel in the middle of downtown Portland. Although the rooms are generic and don’t fit the rest of the hotel, they are updated for charging devices. The bathroom was tiny, with a sink faucet barely set over the sink. Very awkward. Very good shower head and pressure. Tiny lobby bar. The staff was mostly wonderful. Room service was the quickest ever. My rate was great for the location. Beware of the homeless all over downtown. An encampment is very nearby.

    Nice classic hotel with spacious room for standard rooms. Very nice need, but pillows could be better. Just that the neighborhood doesn't make us feel safe because of too many people with mental health or drug addicts, not only just homeless, in this downtown area as well as pearl district. We feel like Portland has changed really badly, and it's very unfortunate that this hotel is in such a location. I'm sure it was so nice back in time with the great central location, but nowadays things changed... We would do love to stay in this hotel if we ever visited.

    The Benson's lobby is grand and charming. Sit down there and have a drink, eat, relax. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. I only wish the rooms were half as charming as the lobby for, forget charming, less bland. They need more decor! More than one understated image on one wall. A splash of color. Also there was no extra blanket in the closet - it would've been nice - it was too late for me to feel like calling housekeeping by the time I realized that. The hotel was conveniently situated (walking distance to Powell's bookstore, the Chinese Garden and the train to PDX). It's nice - maybe the charm of the lobby made me have higher expectations of the room. My room even had enough empty space for me to work out! (I didn't, though - and there's an in-hotel exercise room/mini-gym). Maybe for a cot to be brought in? it could've accommodated a couch which would've been nice. The bed was good, the shower.
