The Cottages on Salt Spring Island

Easy to get into the unit even after office hours because we were given a door code with instructions on where to park and access the unit.

I was unhappy that the fireplace didn't work and we weren't allowed to use a gas fire pit outside.

The cottage was well fitted out, all the equipment we needed was there. It was clean, warm and had comfy beds superb, tranquil views over the lake too. An added bonus was the canoes and paddle boards. We even had a swim in the lake.

Everything. I wanted to have a special cottage experience and this exceeded my expectations. It was everything I wanted a more. The place was immaculate. The facilities were excellent. I hesitated to book somewhere where there were quite a few other cottages nearby – and this was a 'semi-detached' – as I worried about noise from other visitors. The surroundings were so quiet, I worried that one noisy family might ruin my time, but I shouldn't have worried. It was very peaceful. We went to the office just once, and that was to say hello and how much we loved it. Thank you.

What didn't I like? That I had to leave. We will be back, and for a much longer stay.

Soaker tub is pretty deep so really tough to.get in and out if for older folk (us - in out mid yo late 70's)

Our cottage #14 was beautiful inside. It has 2 bathrooms, both with showers. Our lakeview was lovely.

We could not get the fireplace to work, there was no switch and no remote, and it didn’t seem to be controlled by the heat dial, instructions would have been nice. And I wouldn’t put this as a negative, more as feedback.

Electric fireplace didn’t work and couldn’t be fixed.

The cottage we stayed at was very nicely furnished and had a nice kitchen that was well stocked with everything you need to cook.

The spacious comfortable cottage with 2 1/2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen — complete with a large covered deck facing the water. Bullock lake and the dock and boats were fun for my grown daughters each day. And we had a very short drive into Ganges for great shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Love the markets as well and the cheese place. We had a great five days together and loved our stay!

I had the bedroom downstairs and it was chilly during the night. Could have used an extra blanket. Couldn’t turn the heat on.

The lake is beautiful and its great to have access to canoes, kayaks and SUPs. The kitchen was well stocked. The balcony had comfortable chairs. There is plenty of parking.

I didn't realize both bedrooms required stairs which wasn't great for my elderly parents. It was unusually hot when we were there and the cabin was uncomfortably hot even with the fans provided. I'd definitely try for a lake front cabin if I went again. The smallish dock got very crowded.

The cabin was built perfectly for two parties - one upstairs and one down. The balcony was well suited for sitting outside.

For the amount that it cost to stay there, a 5:00 check in and a 10:00 check out did not seem appropriate. Again, for the cost, we shouldn’t have been taking out our own garbage at the end.

We stayed here two years ago while visiting family and it was lovely, with beautiful furnishings. We booked the Cottages again to house a few family members while we held a memorial for my father on SSI. First, we were overcharged by $400, which the manager said was an issue with Booking.com. After two long phone calls and several emails with Booking, I was informed it was never an issue with Booking but that we were automatically upgraded by the property, with no email or confirmation, because the room we booked wasn't available. When we arrived we found brown stains on the carpets, soap scum all over the shower, a glass with two dead flowers, and all the furniture scuffed and scratched. There were mismatched thrift store mugs (including an Xmas mug). As we had been charged $600 a night, this was very disappointing. Management apologized and sent a cleaner, which was appreciated, but I spent the day before my father's funeral dealing with the overcharge and the housekeeping issues. The manager said we would be discounted for our stay but forgot to include a discount and I had to contact her again and remind her. She ended up giving us 10% off, which in no way reflects the hassle we went through and the state of the cottage. I wasn't going to leave a review but honestly, I wish I had been warned ahead of time so we didn't have to deal with this during what was already a difficult trip for us. I don't want anyone else to have this experience. I suggest asking for photos of the unit before you go, as the quality varies wildly between cottages.

Better water equipment as a paddling equipment, or at least information to bring your own paddles. We enjoyed water sports but we couldn't use it as we expected. That was disappointing

There was no beach and no AC

We have been there for 3 years and the location is amazing.

Our recent trip was incredibly disappointing. We have been to The Cottages for 3 years in a row and this was by far the biggest let down. We stayed in Cottage 49 and there were a few things over the days that just made our stay not enjoyable. 1. The lower room balcony was covered in brambles and weeds. It has been clearly not maintained and the unit is just shabby. 2. The electrical board had a piece of paper covering it which is a fire hazard 3. There was no toaster and had to request it 4. There was no TV in the downstairs room 5. The channel selection on the upstairs TV was limited and we were locked out of all but Disney+ 6. The cleaners came to clean out Unit 50 yesterday, Monday, and blared the most inappropriate music. We had to ask them to turn it down twice and they were incredibly rude. We dont get a selection in which cabin we are allocated and the 3 years we have been there all of the above has not been an issue in the other cabins. Which means its either a strata issue or an owner issue. I get you can't control what the owners put in their cabins but if it's at a bare minimum why are we charged the same rate as other cabins we have stayed in that have the aforementioned amenities and more! Its all just so disappointing and we won't be recommending The Cottages nor staying there again.

Arrival with key code was simple and smooth. Parking near front door provided easy luggage unloading/loading. The lake and canoes/paddleboards were great.

This was our 3rd stay at The Cottages. The conditioner dispenser in the shower does not work with the conditioner provided - it is too thick to work. The site office knew of this issue and provided a separate container of conditioner for us to use in the shower. The toaster handle to depress toast was broken off. The front door 3-hook wall rack has the middle hook broken off. There are no pillows for the chairs/sofa in the main sitting area. Some stains on the sofa seats.

The cabin has a great layout, and is close to dock/lake, wildlife. The covered porch off the living room was especially outstanding! The kitchen had everything one would want, and good quality for cooking, (with the one exception of a cutting board). We enjoyed cooking/eating, taking walks, reading/resting, quiet time in this space.

Coming from the US and without access to our cell phone networks, we had no way to get in, as all info was online and nobody was in the office. After knocking on the manager door, the dog alerted her and she came out to tell us how to get in. A non-virtual option would be preferred!

We wished there were more towels. I thought about bringing more towels but decided not to.

Superb, quiet location with well appointed units, provding both oppoertunities for activities in the water, and relaxation for us oldies on the "cottage" balconies. All this on an island that features rural charm, great restaurants, and a vibrant local economy in foodstuffs and beverages,

Having to visit your dump when exiting! You have to do your own recycling and dumping of garbage upon exiting. Great lasting impression..NOT! That was disgusting! I didn't pay over $300/night to see and experience everyone's trash!!! Absolutely disgusted!
