Very well maintained. Beautiful architecture
8.0 / 10.0
We were upgraded to a suite which probably made our stay much more comfortable as a family of four compared to a standard room so we may be more biased. The architecture and gardens were nice, lots of relaxed seating areas along with the smart pool area. Breakfast staff were excellent at accommodating gluten free needs. Gym well equipped too.
It’s an enclosed compound with no views of the sea which for some reason i’d been expecting. It’s also got a real conference vibe so didn’t get the vacation feels. Hard to get a pool spot on weekends. Would have preferred a breakfast buffet rather than a la carte. Lunch and dinner options were really limited for gluten free so we didn’t end up eating there.

Good facilities set in a very relaxing atmosphere. The grounds are very well looked after and create a feeling of calm and relaxation.
We had to ask to move room as the smell from the bathroom drains was awful. I suspect the hotel already knew there was an issue as the room smelled strongly of bleach when we checked in.
The pool area was incredibly poorly managed, lacking availability of fresh towels, water etc.
Staff in the pool area were not trained to the level I’d expect for this standard of hotel. Pretty much a couldn’t care less attitude.

Beautiful location and centrally located. Well kept gardens, spacious and clean. I also appreciated the bar that accommodated alcohol free beverages
The food was pretty good.
The prices for the grab and go breakfast and coffee were a little on the expensive side. Would have maybe preferred more food options.

This is an exceptional hotel. Literally one stop shop where rest meets relaxation meets location meets food and drink. You never have to leave and really shouldn’t. From the coffee in the morning to the espresso martinis at night… it’s all one needs to reset your mind and body.
Pretty much everything

We have stayed here two times before, and the upgrade they recently made was fantastic. The pool, lounge chairs and lunch options were spot on. We loved it before but we REALLY love it now.

The Staff was amazing and went out of the way to make the stay memorable for our 11 year old daughter/ spending time showing her the aviary and how bees make honey, and how monarch butterflies breed. Aliania even gave her a stuffy which was a bee!!!!

The property is beautiful. The rooms were very nice, comfortable and clean. We were there for a family wedding at 4 pm on Saturday. Lovely grounds. Staff were very pleasant.
For such a large property that is beautifully maintained and quite expensive, the hospitality at check in was subpar.Check in was at 4pm, the same time as the wedding. I called twice in advance to see if we could get into our room a little earlier. (30 to 45 min early to change into our black tie clothing). They could not guarantee anything. We arrived at 2pm coming from a 2 and 1/2 hour drive because the 5 freeway can be very unpredictable. We were happy to sit at the restaurant and have drinks watching the wedding venue below being finished and pictures taken. They finally contacted us at 3:50 to let us know our room was ready. By the time we got to the lobby, received our keys, dressed as quickly as possible and made our way to the wedding, the ceremony was nearly over and I missed my two little granddaughters who were flower girls walking down the aisle in front of the bride. This is where hospitality comes into play. Very good resorts accommodate for these situations to ensure everything runs smoothly. The front desk could have cared less. So disappointed!

Great location beautiful remodel and very nice rooms
They had a sewage problem. Didn’t give us the room we needed with two beds and didn’t tell us the problem until the manger came out to speak with me twenty minutes later. It was a big problem for our son’s graduation weekend.

Food excellent, pool area was lovely, and the grounds were exceptional! Sitting around the outdoor fireplace with a nice drink, the best!
My TV keep shutting down, had it fixed but did again. Just left it on after that.

Quiet and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
It’s quite large so getting to your room can be quite a walk but overall it’s a gorgeous property and it’s perfect!

I was a little worried what my toddler that it wasn’t going to be accepting of children. But I was very wrong. Lots of families on property and all the staff was very pleasant to my kid and I. Our room was right near the lawn so it was easy access for him to play. Everything you really need is on site. Had a drink at the lobby bar. Ate at the restaurant. Walked around property. Valet service was quick and professional.
Walls were thin. I could hear my neighbor doing everything. Coughing. Using the bathroom etc. Also the restaurant on site was awful from a service stand point. That was the one really bad experience.

The pool
My view. The cost. No microwave. Ordered the Veranda king room but did not recover a balcony.

Greeting: When we arrived it was an 'extra' person just inside the building saying 'hi' and giving directions to where to check-in.
Pool area: nice pool, felt clean. A lot of pool beds and a relaxed feeling of mixed guests (kids, couples...). Good. Also, if you bought a drink at the pool, it was with nice plastic glasses that they wash over and over again, and not those cheap once. That was also very good.
Gym: Good programs on the indoor walking and running machine, that you could follow. They had some fruit you could pick when you were finished with the excise.
Beds; nice, comfortable beds. Down pillows.
Room: Patio with gate that needed the key to enter = good. Nice sofa with pillows. Could need one more chair outside, since we were 4 persons. Nice furniture in real wood! Good coffee and extra pods were supplied when asked for.
Area, restaurants: Extremely nice environment (building, plants, seatings, paths) within the hotel area. The Dinining was Mexican inspired. We ate 2 nights at the hotel. 1 breakfast, in a different area at the hotel. Expensive but good taste and all was served on excellent beuatiful porcelain and they used fine silverware.
The breakfast restaurant: The serving took too long. We wanted to head of to San Diego, but we had to wait a little bit.
And of course, everything was very expensive, but what we could expect.
Pool area: The bar at the pool closed at 5pm, could have had open for a little longer, since you normally go away and visit the surondings during the day and when you come back you want to relax 1-2 hours by the pool (with a drink :)) and this was not possible now.
Restaurant: Too long waiting time the second day. So we 'needed' to by a drink at the bar outside the restarunatn/lobby, and they had strangely different bar menu, So the wine we had the day before from the restaurant - he could not get and fetch that.....

The hotel pool was under construction - like completely shut with a big chunk of the property off limits. Wish I had known this when we booked. Also, spa was quite snooty - wanted to go in the steam room w/o booking a massage and they were quite snarky about it.

Location and cleanliness of the hotel.
The front desk staff did not have a friendly or pleasant expression. He was flat and short with his answers. He just checked us in and did not offer any recommendations when asked. I also asked about any discounts for UCSD students, and he straight out said no, even though the website says they do offer a discount. The staff at checkout was the same, very flat and not friendly at all.
I have stayed at Estancia 3 times in the past and even got married here. I always had a very pleasant experience at checkin and check out, but on this visit, I did not feel welcomed at all.

Beautiful
There were a few things that happened with the staff that will make me stay elsewhere next time. When I brought up my concerns instead of fixing it I was told over and over there was nothing that could be done. There was an issue with processing my card that was not an issue on my end. I spent hours on the phone with the bank for two days trying to get it fixed when it was literally a click of a button on the hotels end that finally fixed it. I cancelled my facial and was charged half even though I canceled it. I tried to call numerous times but no one answers the spa phone. Then they charged me bc it was less than 24 hours notice. The morning cafe is the worst food and coffee I’ve ever had.

The grounds of this property are beautiful and well maintained.
I've never had a worse hotel stay in my life. The room was over $500, the shower did not work even after they called an engineer, and extremely loud landscape trimming started at 8:00am right outside our patio. They offered me a discount when checking out, but I still paid over $300 for a horrible stay and no shower.
