Al's Westward Ho Motel

It is literally the closest hotel to the park gates. An absolute gem, third generation family run business. Highly recommend.

The pillows, really nothing to complain about.

Our room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. We especially appreciated being within walking distance of the downtown area, which made it easy to explore. The only drawback was the check-in process. Check-in is strictly at 4:00 p.m. because the office doesn't open until then, so there's no opportunity to check in early. When we arrived, the young woman at the front desk answered a phone call and immediately placed it on hold, but then hurried us through the check-in process so she could return to the call. She wasn't unfriendly, but the interaction felt rushed and lacked a welcoming touch. Check-out was similarly impersonal. The gentleman at the front desk appeared busy, simply took our keys, and motioned us on our way. At no point during our stay did anyone greet us with a "Welcome" or thank us for choosing the property. These are relatively minor issues and did not take away from an otherwise pleasant stay. However, I believe genuine customer service and hospitality are important parts of the guest experience, and a warmer, more attentive approach would have made an already good stay even better.

This place is in the middle of the high desert. If you are traveling through this area, it is an oasis. Cheap and cheerful.

Location. Big room. Staff friendly.

TV too small. Street noise. Had to go up street to gas station for coffee. No breakfast. No hair dryer in room.
