I stayed at Island West Resort in Ucluelet and had a much better experience than some of the reviews led me to expect. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a great view of the harbour — waking up and seeing the boats and water right outside was honestly one of the highlights of the trip.
One of the nicest parts of the property is the courtyard. It’s a cozy little grassy area tucked away from the wind, which made it a great place to relax. I was traveling with dogs and they were able to play out there all day. It felt very quiet, sheltered, and safe.
There are tons of other hotel and motel options in the area that are very similar to this one, so it’s not like this place is unusual or sketchy — it’s a perfectly fine place to pick. It is a bit older, but that’s pretty typical for the area, and everything was still clean and well-kept.
The location is very convenient, close to restaurants, shops, and the harbour. There’s also a bar on site, which was handy and added to the overall convenience without taking away from the relaxed atmosphere.
This isn’t a luxury resort, and it’s not trying to be. But if you’re looking for an affordable, straightforward place to stay that’s quiet, safe, and comfortable, it does exactly what you need. I’d stay here again without hesitation.

Location was great. It was clean and the kitchenette worked well for us.
First impression was not great as the resort is in need of much work/TLC. However we needed to persevere because of Booking.com’s mistake in our original booking. Once we got over that we were okay.

Its an old motel. it needs some upkeep. even replacing instead of painting the toilet seat would make a difference.
