About this house rental
Altergrove sits on 36 private acres of forest and pasture, 30 min from Asheville, with long-range views to Mount Mitchell. Big sky, sunny rooms, starry nights: a place to slow down and reconnect.
The two-story home sleeps 8, with fiber Wi-Fi and a wraparound porch. Our wellness deck has a fire pit, hot tub, sauna, cold plunge and outdoor showers. Plus we have a string-lit barn for fun and games.
Robbie, our property manager, lives in a private studio on the lower level with its own entrance.
THE HOUSE
- Two stories, south-facing, full of light and warmed by solar-heated radiant floors
- Fast fiber Wi-Fi throughout, with a strong signal that reaches the wellness deck on the east side of the house
- Cozy living room with a smart TV and soundbar
- Fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and a plastic-free coffee maker
- Big, open wraparound porch looking out over the property, with areas for dining and lounging
Where you'll sleep (sleeps 8)
- Bedroom 1 (upstairs): king bed with walk-in closet and vanity
- Bedroom 2 (downstairs): queen bed, quiet and tranquil
- Bedroom 3 (upstairs): two single beds, great for kids
- Living room: a large sectional with a comfy queen sofa bed that's easy to set up
- Good sleep matters to us: Thuma beds in the main bedrooms (king and queen), 100% cotton sheets throughout, and the quiet darkness of 36 acres in the mountains.
Bathrooms and laundry
- 2 bathrooms: one upstairs, and one downstairs that doubles as the laundry room
- Grab bars installed in the downstairs bathroom
The wellness deck
Custom-built and a highlight of any stay: a 7-foot cedar sauna, 7-foot cedar hot tub, cold plunge (an acrylic tub you fill with well water, plus ice if you bring it), hot outdoor showers, and a 27" Solo Stove fire pit with firewood provided. The deck and the path to it are lit with solar lights. The outdoor showers are shut off on below-freezing nights; the indoor showers are always available.
The barn
A spacious, open-air, string-lit barn with several seating areas, ping pong, cornhole, a piano and a hammock. A space for hanging out, picnicking, playing games and relaxing.

A propane grill, books and board games, a dedicated workspace (upstairs), and baby and kids' gear on request (high chair, playpen, baby bath and stair gate).
ACCESS
You'll have the whole main house, the wellness deck, the barn and 36 acres of forest and pasture to explore. Our property manager lives on site in a private studio below the house; his space and the area around it are private.
Altergrove is reached by a private, single-lane dirt road and a steep hill up to the house. Most cars make it fine, and four-wheel drive is easiest in wet or winter weather. If your car has trouble on the hill, park lower down and our property manager can bring you and your bags up in our utility vehicle. The back entrance has a ramp for step-free entry.

We'll send our Getting Here guide with step-by-step directions and photos. A short rental agreement, including an assumption of risk and release for the property and wellness deck, must also be e-signed after booking; check-in details are sent once it's signed. Marshall and Mars Hill are close by, and Asheville is about 30 minutes away. Hot Springs, the Appalachian Trail, the French Broad River and skiing at Hatley Pointe are all within reach.

Dogs are welcome: up to 2, $150 per dog per stay.
