About this cottage rental

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at this 18th-century weavers' cottage, ten minutes' walk from the cafés, bars and shops of Uppermill and 35 minutes from Manchester. As we're part of a quiet, close-knit community, we don't take bookings for parties. There's a wood-burning stove in the old fireplace, a kitchen made for proper cooking and a private garden. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, with two bathrooms, and it's tucked away with no passing traffic.

Lounge: an Aga wood-burning stove in the original fireplace, oak floors, and a smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Kitchen and dining: exposed beams and rustic floor tiles, a range cooker with six gas rings and two electric ovens, a dishwasher, SMEG fridge, microwave and a bean-to-cup coffee machine. Tea, coffee and a pint of fresh Saddleworth milk are waiting when you arrive.

Bedrooms: the main bedroom has a king-size bed, a feature fireplace and an open beamed ceiling. The second is made up as a double, or as a twin if you ask, with its own shower room. The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower.

Garden: decked, with a gazebo for eating outside. It isn't enclosed, so please don't leave dogs outside on their own.

Also here: washing machine, tumble dryer, wifi, digital radio and a Bluetooth speaker. A high chair, stair gate and travel cot are available if you ask.

The area: the High Street has cafés, bars, restaurants and traditional pubs, and small family-run shops selling good fresh food. Open moorland starts at the door, and the Peak District National Park is ten minutes' drive away.

Good to know: the cottage is along an unmade lane with potholes and no street lights, so bring a torch after dark (there are torches in the cottage). There's a paved slope and four steps up to the front door, and the stairs inside are short but steep; both bedrooms and both bathrooms are upstairs. One parking space is less than a minute's walk away, with free street parking nearby for a second car. No smoking anywhere in the cottage.
