About this house rental
☀️ Daytime Adventures
Start at the coffee bar — a K-cup drawer and a drip machine, your pick — then take your mug out onto the deck with the trees all around you. Downtown Galena's Main Street — shops, restaurants, museums and trolley tours — is a 10 to 15 minute drive, and the town is known for its Victorian architecture, the Ulysses S. Grant sites, its wineries, and hiking, river activities and scenic overlooks. Or stay inside The Territory: your six amenity cards open the Owners' Club, with its indoor pool, seasonal outdoor pool with a double slide, children's wading pool, fitness center, gym and game room, two tennis courts and a basketball court — plus the Lake Galena marina, where you can rent pontoons, fishing boats and kayaks, and 32 miles of trails across hills, ravines and woodlands.
🌅 Evening Magic
As the sun drops behind the trees, load the Pit Boss pellet grill with wood pellets and eat on the deck at the long outdoor table, with the woods on three sides. Then head down: the fire pit sits in a stone ring with Adirondack chairs pulled around it, and the covered patio under the deck glows with string lights and hanging chairs on one side and the barrel sauna and hot tub on the other. Six fit in the sauna, seven in the tub. Finish with a sweat, a soak, and a look through the telescope — the deck is made for stargazing.
🎬 Game Nights & Movie Nights
The converted garage is the house's entertainment wing. On one side, a home theater: nine leather recliners on tiered rows facing an 85" TV, blackout curtains, movie posters and an old-fashioned popcorn cart. On the other, the game room: a pool table, a poker table with chips at the ready, shuffleboard, a bar table, and four classic arcade cabinets — NBA Jam, Rampage, Mortal Kombat II and Pac-Man — under a neon arcade sign.
🛋️ Two Living Rooms
Upstairs, the main living room has a wall of arched windows onto the trees, a wood-burning stone fireplace with a 65" TV above it, a deep sectional and a chess table in the window nook. Downstairs, the walk-out lounge is the movie room for the grown-ups: a velvet sectional, a second wood-burning fireplace, a 65" TV, and a projector with a drop-down screen — with doors straight out to the patio, the hot tub and the sauna.
🍳 A Kitchen for a Crowd
The kitchen was built for feeding twelve: double wall ovens, a gas cooktop, a full-size built-in fridge, skylights, and every basic from the blender and rice maker to the wine glasses. Next door, the dining room seats the whole group under a chandelier. There's a laundry room with a washer and dryer, gigabit WiFi, air conditioning, and a desk in three of the bedrooms if a laptop has to come along.
🛌 Six King Beds, Five Named Rooms
Five bedrooms, six king beds, three full baths and two half baths — and every room is named for what grows in these woods.
🌳 The Canopy Suite: the primary. King bed, a 55" TV, a desk, and your own door onto the deck. The ensuite earns the word — double vanity, walk-in tiled shower and a BainUltra Thermomasseur tub with jets and massage settings.
🍁 The Maple Room: king bed, a desk and a reading chair in deep autumn red, with its own attached bath.
🌲 The Spruce Room: king bed, a desk and an armchair in midnight blue.
🌿 The Fern Room: a quiet king under a green ceiling, with a reading chair — the room for the early sleeper.
🪵 The Lodge: the group's favorite. Two king beds under timber walls, a sofa, a 65" TV, a cabinet of board games and a door out to the patio.
Bed linens, extra pillows and blankets and room-darkening shades throughout.
👶 Families Welcome

🐶 No pets please: To keep the house allergy-friendly and comfortable for all our guests, we kindly ask that you leave your furry friends at home. Thanks for understanding!
The entire house is yours — all five bedrooms, both living rooms, the five named bedrooms, the converted-garage theater and game room, and the outdoor spaces: the wraparound deck, the covered patio, hot tub, barrel sauna, fire pit and grill. We also leave six Galena Territory amenity cards for your group, which open the Owners' Club, the Lake Galena marina and the trails for the length of your stay.
Entry is easy with our Yale touchpad smart lock at the front door. You'll receive your personal door code on the morning of check-in for a smooth arrival.
The driveway has room for six cars.
Feel free to reach out to us anytime through messaging — we're always happy to help! After you book, we'll also send you a handy guidebook with all the details about the property and how to get in touch, so you can relax and look forward to your stay.
The house sits inside The Galena Territory, a private wooded community whose pools, fitness center, marina and trails are open only to residents and their guests — and your amenity cards get you in. The immediate area is quiet and residential, well outside the tourist core.
Downtown Galena's Main Street — shops, restaurants, museums and trolley tours — is a 10 to 15 minute drive. The town is known for its Victorian architecture, the Ulysses S. Grant sites, its wineries, and outdoor recreation: hiking, river activities and scenic overlooks. Our dinner pick in town: Fried Green Tomatoes. 🍅
Shenandoah Riding Center, also in The Territory, offers trail rides, lessons and wagon rides; it needs no amenity card, so book with them directly.
A car is a must around here. There's no regular bus service, and taxis and rideshares are limited in Galena, so renting a car at the airport gives you the most flexibility. The nearest airport is Dubuque (DBQ), a small regional airport; Chicago O'Hare (ORD) is the big one, and there are larger airports in Iowa and Wisconsin as well. The streets around the house are residential and fine for a standard vehicle, with a few short, steep grades and narrow lanes.
Free parking for up to six cars in the driveway, and a Level 2 EV charger on site — charging is free. 🚗⚡
Vehicles parked at the Owners' Club and marina need a Galena Territory parking pass — ask us and we'll point you to where to get one.
