The Neighborhood:

Our house is located in the Fairmount neighborhood – a safe, family-friendly, walkable, and beautiful university neighborhood.

The parks, proximity to the UofO, bike paths, sidewalks and older homes make the neighborhood a popular destination. It is common to see dog walkers, joggers, cyclists, and runners from UofO track team (and other UofO athletes) in the neighborhood. Track Town really comes alive in Fairmount when Eugene's annual track meets pack the streets with participants and onlookers. Steve Prefontaine was an American long-distance runner who competed in the 1972 Olympics for running for the Oregon Track Club. Prefontaine set American records at every distance from the 2000 to 10,000 meters. There is a memorial for Prefontaine in the Fairmount neighborhood. He died at age 24 in an automobile accident near his residence in Eugene, Oregon. One of the premiere track meets in the world, the Prefontaine Classic is held annually in Eugene in his honor every year.

The neighborhood is lucky to have 4 parks and the Willamette River Trail. Hendricks, Mission, Fairmount, and Washburn. To highlight a couple - Hendrick’s Park is the oldest city park in Eugene. This 80-acre park includes: 200-year-old Douglas fir trees, ferns, and wildflowers such as trilliums and irises, and over 6,000 varieties of rhododendrons and other ornamental plants. The Willamette Riverbank Path System is a collection of interconnected multi-use paved paths running along the Willamette River. The beautiful 12-mile path system connects Following the river’s edge, the path system weaves through open spaces, parks, and has five pedestrian/bicycle bridges proving scenic loops with varying distances.

The walkability to a lot of nearby amenities and small commercial centers from our house is another bonus. Just 4 blocks away, there are amenities like:

- The picturesque 9-hole Laurelwood Golf Course nestled in the neighborhood with a Pub for all to sit and enjoy the parklike setting;

- Popular restaurants like Beppe & Gianni's Trattoria, Agate Alley Bistro (also bar), McMenamins East 19th Street Café (also bar), and Studio One Café, Hey Neighbor Pizza House;

- The J-Tea Oolong Bar with delicious tea beverages, loos leaf teas, Kombucha flights, Nitro cold brew coffee; and

- For those of you with a sweet tooth, the BEST desserts are right next door, Prince Puckler’s Ice Cream (ask staff what Michelle and Barak Obamas’ ice cream of choice was) and Sweet Life Patisserie.

- There are also plenty of additional amenities within a mile from our house. Wild Duck Cafe, Little Big Burger, Market of Choice, Sundance Natural Foods, Sundance Wine Cellars and so much more.

Getting Around:

Walk, Bike, drive, Bus

Other Things to Note:

There is a separate main house on the property, so it is important to be respectful. The studio guests have use of the back patio limited to the area with the table & chairs, which is shared with the main house. The rest of the backyard is for use by the main house only.
