About this apartment rental

Sunny private studio in historic townhouse, with private entrance, kitchenette, and PARKING INCLUDED in the heart of the Historic Downtown District.

Perfect for a couple's getaway, week+ work stay, or local family 'guest room'.

One block from Market Square, amidst restaurants and shopping. 2 blocks to Prescott Park, Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth Harbor, and public parks.

*Site of Daniel Webster's home.
Operator license #100004 '

First floor southwest corner with high windows, non-working but charming fireplace, in historic building. Daniel Webster and his family lived on this site!

Two twin beds are combined in the Studio to make one king + there’s one deep bench/child’s bed, and one pack-n-play for a baby/toddler.
++++
Convenient kitchenette to prepare coffee/tea, refrigerate a few yogurts or beverages, and maybe warm up left-overs from Portsmouth's amazing restaurants. This is in no way a cook's kitchen.
++++
Compact bathroom and walk-in shower. *(Please note this is a small dated bathroom, but it has a venting fan and great water pressure.) We supply one set of towels (bath+hand+wash cloth) per guest per stay for energy conservation and efficiency.
++++
Need even more room for family, working, or separate lounging? Then also book the 2-level Apt 2 and/or the 1-bedroom Apt 1--or rent the whole townhouse building--by searching Airbnb for "Portsmouth Historic District Townhouse w Parking" and "Historic 1 Bedroom w Parking."

The property is managed by the owner who lives just three blocks away, and hosted and cleaned by Meghan, a local, self-employed small business owner. She is utilizing Airbnb's *Enhanced Cleaning Protocols*, and compostable disposable towelettes are also provided for guest use for cleaning/disinfecting during the stay, if desired.

Separate private entrance. Entire space is private and for guest use only.

South-facing shared patio by parking lot for fresh air, dining, or just getting warm even in winter.

One off-street parking space included, right next to private entrance.

I am the property owner and have *SuperHost* status, but have passed the baton to my Co-Host, Meghan, to be #1 in Guest Relations .
My husband & I are focused on restoring this historic building and slowly transitioning to semi-retirement. We live just a few blocks away and are always available to support Meghan and tend to any physical plant needs.

We prefer guests send any questions via the airbnb messaging string. If an urgent concern, a call or text is prudent. *Safety/health emergency, always call 911 first.*

This historic downtown district neighborhood has everything: dining, bars, parks, theater, shopping, historic sites—you name it! And you can walk to all of it. A bonus: we are just a couple of blocks from Market Square, but just outside the central downtown noise.

Car, rental bikes, trolley....

There are other guests in upper floors who all use a separate entrance.
*The entire townhouse can be rented: 3 private units can sleep up to 10 guests.
++++
We are sticklers about energy conservation—no open windows allowed during heating or AC season, lights should be off when you’re out, etc., and we supply one set of bath towels per guest, per stay, for water and energy conservation. (Longer-length stay guests can request cleaning/laundry during their stay for an extra fee, or request gratis replacement towels weekly.)
++++
The steam heat system is unusual for most people--it fires only at a set low point so radiators cool between firings. We provide space heaters for auxiliary heat as desired.
++++
Brand new reproduction state-of-the-art insulated windows were installed in December 2024, making for a much warmer and quieter experience.
++++
We do not roll our cleaning fees into a larger nightly rate as many hosts do now because we want you to know that the people tending to your rental are paid a fair and living wage for their work.
++++
We do ask guests to strip their beds and wash any used dishes/glassware/utensils before they check out. This helps make cleaning safer for our housekeeper, and housekeeping rates reasonable.
++++
Please keep in mind that this is a vintage historic building with quirks as well as charms.
We strive to provide a space with both character and comfort, and are proud to be locally owned and managed.
