The ferry port at Bowness is a short drive away (4 miles), and is dominated by major summits, as is The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, which draws in literature fans year-on-year. Hawkshead, Grasmere and Ambleside are all within 10 miles, and offer cosy eateries and independent shopping, while thrill seekers are bound to go west to the region's major summits of Bowfell and Scafell Pike (13.5 miles).
