Location was so useful. Really close to all the lovely cafes, pubs and shops.
Right on the valley of the rocks trail too, which was great even on a very windy day.
Staff were so friendly and inviting, very enthusiastic about the hotel. Its a beautifully impressive building with period features.
The hotel is highly praised by local people.
Great shower and bed and sea view
Needed nicer mugs and glasses for the room, a hair towel and more heating by the 2nd night (its very high ceiling)
An iron was provided on request.

When I booked the room I thought that it included a buffet type breakfast only to learn when I got there that they no longer did breakfasts.
The hot water took a long time to come on tap.

Lovely old world style hotel. Our second stay here and had a lovely turret corner room with great views. Good sized room. All the staff ate friendly and welcoming and it is very dog friendly. Great base to explore the area.

The location and the quirkiness of the hotel
The cold! No hot water or heating! We had to have a plug in useless electric heater!

Hotel and staff were lovely 😊
It was cold as January! Extra blanket and heater thoughtfully provided in the room, so nothing to complain about 😊

Wonderful location. Reception staff literally couldn’t have been friendlier. If I had taken a name I’d put it down, but she was absolutely wonderful. They couldn’t do enough for us
It’s a shame it didn’t have a bar, but there is so much around in the area it didn’t matter to our stay. But it does help create an atmosphere and buzz in the hotel so that was a shame

Staff were lovely, helpful and always happy to speak and answer any questions you may have..
The lady on my check-in day came and helped me with my bags, as I had my dog with me..she was great..forgot her name but Thankyou for everything my lovely ...I HAD SEE VIEW FROM MY WINDOW..
The hotel is very old, but beautiful
Lots of character..
Being out of season there was now restaurant or bar.
My single room was cosy, loved the very high ceiling.
Rooms had everything that's needed including a hairdryer...
Lift was our of order..
The room could do with a freshen up with paint..
Limited parking at back of property, at little was to front of hotel so be aware when carrying your baggage..plus there is no pavement
The hotel is on a corner..

Staff were nice. Location
The central heating wasn’t switched on and we were given small electric radiators which didn’t even begin to take the edge off the cold in the rooms. When we complained about the cold we were offered fan heaters. The rooms were so cold at night we woke in the middle of the night and couldn’t sleep because of the cold. Also, whilst the bed was clean, the room hadn’t been cleaned properly- there were spiders and cobwebs at the top of the curtains and a dead spider squashed on the ceiling. The bathrooms had no heating switched on and it was too cold to shower properly as it was freezing and the water wasn’t warm enough.

The original building.
No food . lift out of order. No hot water No heating No staff. Not dog friendly No feeding bowls. No treats. No bed..Dirty bedding. Unable to use television handset not working probably requires a new battery.
Considering it was the coldest night of the year I thought it was unreasonable.
I was forced to leave next day due to health concerns it worried me about no heating.
The hotel was obviously very nice in its time but now needs upgrading.

Location
Freezing cold room and draughty.
Summerweight duvet on bed.
Water in bathroom not hot enough to wash comfortably.
No heater in the bathroom added to the cold.
Staff had a variety of reasons, hints and tips on the lack of heating and cold water, so clearly are constantly having to fields complaints about these things. They eventually found me an electric heater and a blanket when I couldn’t take it anymore but I still had to sleep in thermals and dressing gown. Staff wearing hat, coat and gloves indoors so clearly also cold. Then the little heating there was went off in the night!
I booked a stay to get out of my Campervan on a cold night - I would have been warmer in the van.

Perfect location to get to good walks in the local areas. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Value for money!
Shame they don’t do food but there’s more than enough restaurants in short walking distance, so not a problem at all

Excellent location, comfy beds.
I didn’t realise that the hotel offers no food or drinks. I possibly should have read the description better, however you are allowed to buy food and drinks and bring it in.
I wasn’t the other person caught out by this.

Really comfortable and welcoming, and excellent value for money. In the centre of Lynton, with easy access to stunning walks, shops, the cliff railway and bus stop (buses to Barnstaple station). Had a lovely overnight stay with my dog - just wish I’d booked for longer.

There was nothing about this hotel that could be rated as positive.
The lift was out of action, the room wasn't particularly clean, nor was it very inviting. There was no hot water in the evening and generally this room was terrible. A kettle, but no tea or coffee!! No biscuits, in fact an immigration hotel would have better accommodation!!

Location and room size were great.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Generally clean and in good order. Amazing view.
No breakfast available. Shower was good but temperature of water from sink tap was barely warm. Bedside lamp was not plugged in so had to pull out bed to plug in - not very clean behind. Generally in good order but small details could be improved like curtains coming away at top and windows not cleaned.

Perfect location on Exmoor - both Lynton and Lynmouth are exceptional locations!
Lovely big hotel must have been fantastic in its heyday and still is a great hotel.
Staff friendly and helpful and the hotel is very clean!
Just need to start serving breakfast and the owners are hoping to from Easter 2026 - but no worries as the hotel has many great cafes on the doorstep.

Super stay in an older hotel full of character in the centre of beloved Lynton.
8.0 / 10.0
A classic old majestic hotel in a perfect location right in the centre of Lynton. Good size rooms with nice en suite and more than enough tea, coffee and milk.... Extra on reception too.
It is a shame that the hotel has closed it's bar and restaurant. Hence no breakfast. This is reflected in the price. However there are many cafes close by for breakfasts and we found the nearby pubs great for an evening meal. Don't know if it would be so easy in the high season though.

Great location.
They were not transparent about how to book a parking space, so very inconvenient not to be able to park at the hotel. Had to look elsewhere.

Location. Friendly staff. Lots of character in the building.
Rooms could do with tidying up/ modernising.

Another fantastic stay in the southwest’s best value hotel
Nothing bad here

Great central location for anyone wanting to explore the area. Lady on reception friendly.
Sadly this is a building that is past its heyday and an era of mass tourism of people staying in hotels like this. The building is now sadly tired and requiring significant investment.

Lounge spacious, and very good, receptionist helpful, disappointed no food available, and also NO BAR
Few things in room, water took ages to come through hot, no plug, window fitment Brocken, adequate, hostel feeling about it

Great location, right in the centre of Lynton. I loved having the window open to hear the bashing of the waves all night, that was amazing.
The hotel is “tired”. I wonder loved to have seen the hotel in its prime, sadly that is not now the case
