The ghastly hotel that should be shut down.

There was nothing about this hotel that could be rated as positive.

The lift was out of action, the room wasn't particularly clean, nor was it very inviting. There was no hot water in the evening and generally this room was terrible. A kettle,but no tea or coffee!! No biscuits, in fact an immigration hotel would have better accommodation!!

Location and room size were great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Generally clean and in good order. Amazing view.

No breakfast available. Shower was good but temperature of water from sink tap was barely warm. Bedside lamp was not plugged in so had to pull out bed to plug in - not very clean behind. Generally in good order but small details could be improved like curtains coming away at top and windows not cleaned.

Exceptional

Perfect location on Exmoor - both Lynton and Lynmouth are exceptional locations! Lovely big hotel must have been fantastic in its heyday and still is a great hotel. Staff friendly and helpful and the hotel is very clean!

Just need to start serving breakfast and the owners are hoping to from Easter 2026 - but no worries as the hotel has many great cafes on the doorstep.

Lovely Majestic Hotel.

A classic old majestic hotel in a perfect location right in the centre of Lynton. Good size rooms with nice en suite and more than enough tea, coffee and milk.... Extra on reception too.

It is a shame that the hotel has closed it's bar and restaurant. Hence no breakfast. This is reflected in the price. However there are many cafes close by for breakfasts and we found the nearby pubs great for an evening meal. Don't know if it would be so easy in the high season though.

Great central location for anyone wanting to explore the area. Lady on reception friendly.

Sadly this is a building that is past its heyday and an era of mass tourism of people staying in hotels like this. The building is now sadly tired and requiring significant investment.

Great location, hotel needs updating

Great location as close to walks etc to make it easy to go & explore the surrounding area .... Plus in walking distance of many eating establishments ie cages, tapas, pubs & restaurants

The hotel bar is not open at all, the pictures clear show it open & stocked up, no food available at all, people eating pizzas & takeaway in the main lounge, bed matress was very uncomfortable & probably needed to be changed, toilet was to too close to the wall for sitting etc so had to use the main toilets everytime (for a number 2), plug missing from the sink so couldn't fill it up, the shower kept on blocking up (had to get the receptionist up to plunge it} plus it leaked all ove the floor everytime we used it, plus found it alittle strange that we needed to book parking & pay for it....

I loved the hotel but I think it was overpriced when Travelodge can offer better for less

we loved the hotel and Paul was a fantastic introduction to the hotel. the view was impressive, they allow dogs which was our main reason for booking this hotel.

when booking the hotel it doesn't mention you have to pre-book parking so I had to find a space down the road. there are no facilities within the hotel, no restaurant and no bar, the photos on the website show a beautiful dining area, this was there but was empty. I booked a deluxe room and paid for it but I was put in a dog friendly room which whilst comfortable and functional was no where near the standard of the deluxe rooms pictured.

What can I say - Rachael, we love you!! This place is an extraordinary experience. You are either going to love it or hate it. If you value character, quirkiness, history and extraordinary value for money you’ll love this old Victorian pile that has definitely seen better days but still echoes it’s grand past as you ramble through it’s vast spaces and endless corridors. It’s also as central as you’ll ever get and Rachael the manager is lovely. We had a great sea view too!

Me - Nothing, but if you prefer pristine modern over character and quirky you may wish to look elsewhere.

The Valley of ROTTEN Rocks

Location everything else was misleading advertising on web page, room was small, damp in ceiling, no restaurant no bar facilities and talking to locals has a bad reputation, we should request a refund at 200 pound a night it was a disgusting rip off. Room wasn't cleaned and had to ask for clean towels !!!! Would never recommend to anyone and would advise people to not stay !!!!

Last minute stay and was very adequate.

Extremely last minute booking as planned camping cancelled due to weather. Definitely an upgrade from camping! Sea view, warm and clean bedroom. Extra pillows in wardrobe thoughtful. Hot drinks in room. Great location with large car park close by (if hotel car park full).

Bed could have been more comfortable as I found it a bit hard. TV had remembered previous users you tube searches which made for an interesting conversation with my 8 year old when he tried to watch.....ha ha. The bedroom wasn't the same as in the pictures show on the review - much smaller and darker even with a light on.

The location was good

The bathroom had black mould and the shower curtain was yellowed. The bedding was marked, curtains were paint marked and shabby. The whole decor was poor and tired and the room smelled musty. Not as shown in the pictures at all. The bed was very uncomfortable and only one pillow provided.
