Things to Note
Although the house is close to everything, the street is generally quiet, especially considering its proximity to the beach. Ocean Beach is a laid-back coastal community with a bit of a throwback feel. It has a different vibe than the fraternity/sorority energy of Pacific Beach or the more tourist-heavy feel of Mission Beach. OB is often described as one of Southern California’s last real beach towns.
That said, you are staying at the beach. Ocean Beach can be festive, busy & crowded during holidays, select weekends & local events. Most of the time, OB is mellow & relaxed, but this is still Southern California beach living — not Martha’s Vineyard. :)
Ocean Beach & the greater Point Loma area are under the San Diego airport flight path, so plane noise is part of the neighborhood experience. Fortunately, San Diego International Airport generally does not allow regular commercial jet departures between 11:30 pm & 6:30 am, though military & emergency aircraft may be exceptions. Some days are busier than others.
Like many Southern California beach communities, Ocean Beach does have some visible homelessness. In our experience, people are generally non-aggressive & keep to themselves, but guests should be aware that this is part of the broader beach-area environment.
Respectfully, this is not a party house. Quiet hours begin at 9 pm & are strictly enforced out of respect for our neighbors. We are dog lovers, but all pets must be registered at the time of booking & approved in advance.
Parking
The home includes 1 off-street parking space. Cape May Avenue also has open street parking, but street parking can be busy, especially on weekends & in the evening.
The home is very walkable, and rideshares such as Uber & Lyft are readily available & recommended if you plan to explore without moving your car.
