Boat Country Inn and Restaurant

Hotel is quaint but very dated and very under staffed. Room we were in (307) was clean , had nice sized TV but bath with shower could do with s good vlean, black mold on tiles, see photo attached, it's not pattern on tile, it's mold. Bathroom floor had lots of cracked tiles. Roo.m had coffee but no cups or spoons supplied, probably overlooked furing prep. Breakfast was good, restaurant and drinks were overpriced in my opinion but no complaints on food quality. Another Real issue is water noise. Sounded like an old tank filling up in loft or very bad pipe noise whenever water being run in any of the rooms, thankfully quietened down through the night but stated again around 630am. Which I put down to an early riser. If your elderly becareful to ask for a room low down as we were up in the gods and here's no lift.so humping a suitcase could be an issue. Old sash windows and with wind tendcto rattle a bit had to wedge a piece of cardboard to keep noise down on that. Hate to sound picky but in my opinion it's an honest review, it's an old hotel, nice enough and location is good.

The hotel is in a quiet village and to the rear of the hotel there is the train station for the steam train. Beautiful views from our room. Staff were very friendly and the food for breakfast and dinner were excellent although I would advice booking dinner on arrival as it very popular . The hotel itself self is in need of a bit tlc although our room was lovely

Disappointing stay – cleanliness and noise issues We stayed for one night in Room 101 on October 7th, 2026. On first impression, the hotel and room looked very nice. However, on closer inspection, the room fell short on cleanliness. The bottom of the shower screen was green, the taps needed a thorough scrub, and there was a strong, unpleasant drain smell around the toilet. Additionally, there was muffled music noise coming from directly below the room (presumably the bar or kitchen) that didn't stop until 11:50 PM and started up again early at 6:45 AM. Unfortunately, due to the poor hygiene standards and disruption to our sleep, I would not stay at this hotel again.

Poor value for the price paid. The room was very cramped. Breakfast was uninspiring. The price for draught beer was very high and was astonished that the do not accept cash payment at the bar. Will not return I did have a nice view from my window.
