Cosy, inviting winter stay

The hotel is homely, warm and comfortable. The bedroom was clean and well set out.

Relaxing :)

The Boat is a great location next to the steam railway. Book for breakfast as well, nice little buffet and excellent fresh cooked. Room was lovely and a spacious and excellent shower.

It was a bit chilly on arrival but apparently a problem with the heating. Which was soon back up to speed.

It was OK, but it has been better

Breakfast was very good and dinner was ok

have stayed a few times before, I think this was the 4th time but it was only for 1 night this time. we had 2 rooms. The first room with 1 person in seemed to be ok with a large TV and comfortable bed. Our room you could feel the bed springs though the mattress and it had a tiny TV ( Maybe why I am a bit salty ) We also had half a dozen flies cruising round it. Got rid of them but a few more pitched when we got back after dinner.

Comfortable stay with a wonderful restaurant

We enjoyed our stay here! The staff was friendly, room modestly comfortable, and the restaurant was really good. The free breakfast was also very good! The chef was able to adjust to my lactose allergy and the food is plated very beautifully to make you feel like you are in a very fancy restaurant while having the comfort of an inn. We ordered a bottle of white wine our first night and they stored it in the bar fridge for our second night. Very accommodating! I also had no issues at breakfast having options for warm breakfast and they had some soy milk available for cereal. We would stay here again! It is close proximity to many hiking trail heads, and when the steam train is in season, it is right next to a station. I think I prefer staying in the off season though since it’s quiet!

Nothing wrong with the stay. If anything the adjusting the shower took us a bit of time to figure out since there is a delay in the temperature adjustment and the water pressure isn’t as high as other stays for a rain shower setup. There is a normal shower head/handheld option on the shower head though!

I had a really nice stay, my room was warm and clean and comfortable.

The staff were all so nice and helpful.

The breakfast served on a cold plate, but food was so nice. Exreamly slow coffee machine, also the coffee was not warm.

Warm, welcoming and a cracking breakfast!

What a gem of a place! A last minute booking on our part and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. A really special location, Boat of Garten feels like a wee hidden gem. And the interior is exactly what you want from a cosy Scottish hotel. The team were really friendly and accommodating. Although we were there with a fussy 8 month baby the team made us feel so welcome and taken care of. We live in the Western Isles so next time we need to stop into Inverness we will definitely be back. Excellent value for money. Gorgeous spot. Lovely stuff.

Brilliant Boat Hotel

So many things to like about this place. Fantastic location right next to the Strathspey railway in the lovely boat of garten. located in beautiful countryside with everything on your doorstep including Aviemore Although we did not get the room that we booked we were not charged for our dogs. I have a badly broken wrist and staff could not have done enough to help me with kindness. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we had a lovely shower room and the room was nicely decorated. The breakfast was absolutely incredible one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had. Magdalena the manager was fantastic and I need a new friend in her. Also the breakfast and kitchen staff were amazing and they allowed us to take our time and we were not rushed out as I was struggling with my broken wrist. I honestly would recommend this hotel and so don't listen to any of the negative reviews. I will definitely be going back special thanks to Magdalena for looking after us so well we arrived as strangers and left as friends

Little thing was that we didn't get the room that we paid for but I understand mix ups happen and them letting the dogs safe for free made up for that.

The heating in our room didn’t work throughout our two night stay. Not offered another room to stay in or even a warm room and a hot drink while the fan heater did its job. Very cold over night as we couldn’t leave the heater on.

Evening meal was very good but very expensive.

Wrong type of beds in the booking. One of the beds was covered in hair. The place was so busy not even a place for a pre meal drink and seat.

Restaraunt and food good

Room wasn't made up when we arrived at 6 o'clock in the evening dirty linen dirty towels dirty dishes rubbish bins full, they sent someone up to rectify it but they didn't put on clean sheets we didn't get any cups back it was too late to leave not satisfactory at all

Comfortable Country Inn

A traditional-style inn with comfortable, recently renovated, and spotlessly clean rooms. Nicely located next to the historic steam railway station. The restaurant served excellent pub food.

The water just trickled out of the shower, hot tap in bathroom moved around. Breakfast was served cold, no staff around to resolve do ended up not eating it. Larger was flat even on twice complaining.

Nice but tired, in more ways than one.

Location was fine, food and facilities were fine.

Hotel coveys a country hotel character and although the rooms have been renovated, the quality of the bed and mattress was not up to the quality the hotel would like to portray. The mattress was a lumpy, old-style spring mattress and was not conducive to a good night’s sleep. This coupled with a lack of sound insulation (it is an old building)and some noisy guests, a good night’s sleep and rest was not forthcoming.

Worst hotel stay ever

It should be noted that we did finally receive a full refund. However, we were locked out of our room and couldn't get hold of any members of staff. We had to sleep on the floor in another guest's room with no access to our things. If we didn't know another guest, we would have been sleeping in the foyer. Only received contact from hotel at 2pm next day. It's absolutely shocking. What if we didn't have anywhere else to sleep (we were on the floor, btw) or if there had been any kind of emergency. There was nobody available to help. We had 3 days of holding emails and have yet to receive any kind of apology from management. This hotel has no regard for guest safety and only responded when threatened with legal action. You don't expect to book a 4 star hotel and sleep on the floor! Tourism in Scotland is so important and this hotel lets us all down.

Great location, lovely hotel, very kind staff, and truly dog friendly.

Dinner was delicious. Highly recommend. One of the things that made this great for us was how puppy friendly the whole place was. Staff were also fantastic.

Poor service overall and overpriced, which is a shame as location is stunning.

Lovely location, peaceful and next to the steam railway.

The staff were not friendly or helpful. They all looked and acted like they didn't want to be there. Reception is not manned 24 hours a day so our friends key didn't work one night and they had to wait over an hour to get into their hotel, when a worked appeared back at hotel for something. No signs on who to call if required etc. The breakfast was not great, they couldn't even make poached eggs, they were basically boiled out their shell, hard and dry. The rooms were not made up, each day we had to hunt down housekeeping to get new towels as they took the old towels away and did not replace them, the bed was not made, just cover pulled back up and dirty cups/glasses were not removed or replenished. At over £200 per night I expected a lot more service than we got.

brilliant location, lovely food, wine and beer, plus breakfast was lovely

we got the last room in the house, and it really was a "cosy double", but it was fine for one night. We enjoyed the cold beer, great food and spectacular location. Staff were friendly.

Self service check out doesn't work when your bikes are locked away for the night. We had a delay while someone with a key was located, and there were a few other confused or irate customers around.

Fabulous location, adjacent to steam railway station. Large room with garden view and access and good bathroom. Front of house staff good Breakfast OK, and 1 staff great, 1 not very welcoming/friendly.

A bit tired in places, eg wallpaper damaged. Coffee machine at breakfast splattered and lipstick stains on a fresh cup.

Characterful old style, stone country hotel.

Lovely older style hotel in interesting village location. Ideal intermediate stop location enabling us to see the River Spey and subsequently the Grampians on our tour.

Friendly and comfy stay

This hotel was great from a location, staff and food perspective. We had a comfy large bed with a lovely garden room view which was more than we expected from a 3 star hotel.

The room we stayed in had an overwhelming smell of damp although we could not see any obvious issues. It was perfectly fine as this was the summer but should be looked into for the future more importantly.

We had a comfortable and enjoyed our stay but for the price, I would have expected better.

Breakfast was good. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Dinner was good .

Overall hotel seemed a bit dated. We had a suite and stayed 3 nights. Windows wouldnt stay open as opening cords were broken. Top hinges on doors on wardrobe were both broken. Curtains were torn. Although someone came in and made bed etc, it was not done neatly at all, bin wasn’t emptied and bathroom wasn’t cleaned. We thought food and drink a bit expensive.

Dinner was great. Evening staff at restaurant was great. Love the location. Quiet. Great area to stay in. Loved the train station. Love the trails nearby.

The rooms were not clean. The bathroom toilet kept running all night. No fan or way to cool off. No fridge. Breakfast wasn’t good and staff (support) was not friendly. Main server (older lady) was but other girls there were not nice. Also in the room the curtains are so old and had a large spider in them. Carpet had stains.

Dreadful

Nicely presented & decorated.

Extremely worn out bed, terrible night unable to sleep. Ended up sleeping for a couple of hours on the floor. Severe headache as a result, so I was unable to manage any breakfast. As a last minute booking for a single room I didn't have high expectations, but this was unacceptable.
