About this apartment rental
Berghaus Hintermatt, our modern Black Forest lodge at 1,100 m in the sunny high valley of Todtnauberg, offering unique views and a distant view of the Alps. Hiking and biking trails, cross-country ski trails, and ski lifts are all nearby.

We love life in the Black Forest mountains, we love to travel, and we love to let our minds wander. So we found a house in a fantastic location, with a large outdoor area and stunning panoramic views all around, and we’ve lovingly furnished it to be energy-efficient and high-quality for people who share this passion with us.
It’s not a luxurious hideaway, but rather has the soul of a very modern mountain cabin with classic wooden walls, creaky stairs, a large living-dining-kitchen area, new bathrooms and balconies, as well as a large outdoor area, a carport, and a bike and ski storage room.
All rooms have underfloor heating. The heating system runs on geothermal energy, and the electricity comes from the property’s own solar panel system. We have preserved many beautiful old details.
We rent out two vacation apartments in the house: the “Panorama Apartment” for 12 people and the “Garden Apartment with Sauna” for 4–6 people. Both apartments can also be rented together and are connected by an internal staircase. Each apartment has its own entrance and a private garden with outdoor seating for barbecuing and relaxing. They offer space for friendly, active, and sociable people—young and old—who love nature, live sustainably, and enjoy being outdoors. Board games, Wi-Fi, and large TVs are, of course, also available.
The “Garden Apartment with Sauna” accommodates 4–6 people, has 2 separate bedrooms, and, if needed, a sofa bed in the living room. All bedrooms can be darkened. The large bathroom features a sauna, a spacious shower with a rain showerhead, a sink, and a toilet. There is also a separate additional toilet.
The kitchen is very well equipped with a raclette machine, a DeLonghi fully automatic coffee maker, a microwave, an oven, a dishwasher, a kettle, a toaster, baking pans, a full set of tableware and cookware, and wine and champagne glasses.
Upon request, the washing machine and dryer in the utility room can be used.
The carport, parking spaces, the path to the house, the electric charging station, and the storage room for bikes and skis are available for all guests to use.
THE SURROUNDINGS!
Right in Todtnauberg are the Todtnau Waterfalls with the breathtaking “Blackforestline” suspension bridge.
The spectacular summer toboggan run and the downhill bike trail in Todtnau are not far away (about 4 km).
The Steinwasen Wildlife Park is 8 km away, and Schluchsee and Titisee are about 22 km away.
Freiburg’s Old Town can be reached in just over half an hour, while Switzerland—with the Rhine Falls—and Basel, with its many museums, are just under an hour’s drive away.
In winter, when snow conditions are excellent, you can access the Todtnauberg ski area directly from the house via the official ski route or set out on a ski tour. The Feldberg ski area is about 14 km away. Cross-country trails are accessible directly from the house or after a short walk.
Todtnauberg offers hiking trails for all skill levels, including those ideal for children. Hanging chairs in the forest, many beautiful scenic benches, and the world’s longest bench on the Stübenwasen invite you to take a break and enjoy unforgettable views of the Rhine Valley, the Alps, and the Black Forest.
In addition to a small mountain lake, there is also a small outdoor pool in the village for swimming.

The local visitor’s tax is payable on site and is not included in the booked price. After booking, you will receive information on how to pay the visitor’s tax upon arrival.
The visitor’s tax for the town of Todtnau, applicable to Todtnauberg starting at 01.01.2026, is €3.20 per person (ages 16 and up) per day and must be paid separately. Children 6 and under are exempt. Children ages 6 through 15 pay €1.30 per person per day.
The completed tourist tax registration forms serve as a Konus card. This allows for free use of public transportation.
Electric cars are welcome. If needed, the 11 kW charging station can be used at a rate of 0.35 €/kWh.
When using the electric charging station, we require a deposit of 500 € for the charging card; the actual charging costs will be billed after departure. The deposit must be paid to us before arrival; payment instructions will follow after booking.
The rental price includes bed linens, one bath towel and one hand towel per guest, as well as one shower mat per bathroom and dish towels.
We ask that you make and strip the beds yourself.
