Idyllic Country Cottage near York

Excellent location in the middle of a quiet and pleasant village. The cottage was spacious, generally comfortable and well equipped. Bathrooms were all in excellent condition, and there was lots of hot water. The central heating was effective, and easy to control. Kitchen was large and sociable. Car parking was easy in the adjacent pub's car park. The nearby (1 minute walk) community-run village store is lovely. There was a nice welcome pack provided, Nearby Pocklington is a lovely small market town with lots of nice cafes, shops and an arts centre. Well worth a visit, and handy to have nearby for food, etc.

The matresses in all the bedrooms were rather on the soft side - we'd have preferred something firmer. Unfortunately the pub next door was in the process of closing down, so weren't serving food. Until new owners are found for the pub, this is going to detract somewhat from the experience. And finally, a minor irritation: providing three dishwasher tablets for a three night stay is a bit mean.

Beautiful old cottage with spacious but homely living spaces and a beautiful garden too to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun.

It was all excellent so hard to find something. Stairs were steep but did have stairgate which was appreciated.
