About this house rental
In 1966, an architect discovered this perfect spot and designed a loving mid-century weekender to capture the site's natural beauty—sweeping vistas, summer breezes, and a sense of simpler times. The 2025 renovation enhanced every feature while thoughtfully preserving its original character. The standout is the gourmet, custom kitchen, where meal prep becomes a joy with panoramic lake views in every direction.
The main home features two visually private loft-style bedrooms separated by curtain dividers—throw them open each morning to greet the day with stunning water views. The first loft has a luxurious king bed; the second offers four twins (a bunk bed plus a twin with trundle). Room-darkening curtains block direct sun, but the spaces stay naturally bright—eye shades are recommended for light-sensitive sleepers.
A highlight is the very private primary suite in a separate back house (a smaller structure set slightly off the main home), complete with its own mini kitchenette, private deck, and beautiful lake views.
The lake is the true star here. A spacious new deck off the main home is perfect for family dinners, morning coffee, or unwinding after a day of swimming and play. The yard offers ample space for games and lounging. The sheltered cove is ideal for little ones to wade in gently, while the dock on the peninsula puts you right over the water with prime views of Inks Lake State Park across the way.
Important Safety Note: This property is not suitable for guests with mobility impairments. While many children have loved staying at Rockwood Retreat, close parental supervision is essential. Built in 1966, the home and grounds include numerous stairs, terraces, and retaining walls without railings or barriers—careful attention is required. Submerged rocks and boulders are common in the water, so no jumping from docks, retaining walls, or other structures.
