An idyllic Devon getaway nestled in a hidden valley near the River Dart.
Tucked away in a lush, hidden valley close to the River Dart and the South Devon coast, Fingals is a delightfully quirky and character filled collection of holiday homes. A true hidden gem, arty, atmospheric and wonderfully individual with a touch of eccentric magic, offering a peaceful retreat in an enchanting setting. Perfect for a family holiday with your four legged companions, The Barn can be booked alone or for larger family gatherings of up to 14 guests can be booked with The Folly, Wisteria Barn and Barberry Brook. The Barn is a place to relax, reconnect and feel instantly at home.
The Barn – Sleeps 6
Step into this beautifully converted oak-framed barn where high green oak trusses, floor-to-ceiling windows and a warm, welcoming open-plan living space set the tone for relaxed, sociable stays. There's plenty of room to cook, dine and unwind together, whether it's cosy evenings around the grand piano or alfresco meals on the covered balcony overlooking the gardens.
Sleeping up to six, The Barn is thoughtfully arranged across two floors. On the ground floor, there's a comfortable double bedroom, alongside a twin room with two single beds and an en-suite. The main bathroom is also on this floor, complete with a beautiful roll-top bath and WC. On the lower ground floor, you'll find a further double bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom, including a shower, bath and WC.
With its generous living spaces and flexible sleeping arrangements, The Barn makes the perfect social hub for your group.
Although The Barn was never quite destined to house livestock, we're delighted to welcome your four-legged companions instead. Fingals is also home to our two friendly Lurchers, so we can happily recommend plenty of tried-and-tested local dog walks — with more scenic routes than you can shake a stick at.
We kindly ask that dogs accompany you whenever you leave the property, helping us to prevent any potential damage or noise disturbance for other guests and ensuring everyone enjoys a peaceful stay.
Shared delights and location
All guests enjoy access to Fingals' superb facilities, comprising a heated indoor pool, sauna, games room, gym and grass tennis court — plus abundant gardens, walking routes and cycling tracks to explore. The swimming pool is shared between the four properties on site and is available for guests to enjoy at any time. If you'd prefer some private swimming time, there is a simple booking system on a whiteboard outside the pool, where you can reserve an allocated private session.
The enchanting waterside village of Dittisham is just a mile away, with riverside cafés, pubs and ferries across the Dart to Greenway House, home of Agatha Christie, or downriver to Dartmouth and its historic harbour.
Whether you're gathering for celebrations, enjoying quality time with loved ones or simply seeking a restorative escape amidst Devon's rolling countryside, this combination of properties offers flexibility, charm and unforgettable holiday memories.
