Out and About:
Rye is full of character and charm with its cobbled streets and ancient buildings, restaurants, pubs and a Kino cinema. The Rye Nature Reserve, which is on your doorstep, is perfect for walking and bird watching as over 90 species of birds nest here with 5 bird hides available. There are reed beds, a salt marsh and saline lagoons, protected rare plants and shingle flowers, grazing sheep and wonderful trails all waiting to be discovered. With three local vineyards within 10 miles, there is plenty for the bon vivant. There are many local walks in the beautiful countryside, no need to get in the car: within 400 yards you are into open countryside. Camber beach with it’s famous stretch of sand is a 40 minute walk away, or a quick hop on the bus. With a large range of watersports on offer at the adjoining Rye Watersports centre, there is something for everyone. Winchelsea is less than an hour away to walk, or a short hop on the train; a lovely beach and a quaint village with lovely pubs. There are many National Trust properties nearby and also the famous gardens and historic house at Great Dixter.
