Romantic eco friendly cottage by the sea

Rustic and private. We enjoyed our quiet getaway. Close to general store and takeaway.

Lighting the gas stove with a cigarette lighter was difficult with my arthritis (reported this and it may already have been acted upon). Would also have liked a blanket for the bed, but made do with throws. (We find Dunas too warm at this time of year). Needs a lightweight frypan as cast iron was quite heavy.

Our stay was overall disappointing, although there were a few positive aspects. The house itself was spacious and located in a beautiful area. Lucy was responsive and helpful whenever we needed assistance, and we appreciate the attention she provided during our stay. Despite these challenges below we were still able to enjoy some good moments during our stay. The property has potential thanks to its location and generous space, and with some improvements it could become a great destination. Unfortunately, in its current condition, we do not believe it offers good value for money and would not recommend it.

Cleanliness (2/5): The property was not as clean as expected. There were numerous cobwebs, noticeable dust accumulation, and the overall standard of cleanliness fell below what we would expect for a paid accommodation. Heating System (1/5): This was the biggest issue during our stay. The listing mentioned heating, but the reality was quite different. Upon arrival, we found instructions for a bathroom heater that did not work. There was also a portable heater hidden away, which took us nearly two hours to locate. In addition, the property relies on a wood-burning stove, but no firewood was provided, nor did the listing clearly state that guests would need to bring or purchase their own. As a result, we spent almost an entire afternoon sourcing firewood and trying to heat the house during a particularly cold period. Since we only had a short weekend stay, losing a significant portion of our time dealing with heating issues was extremely frustrating. We strongly recommend that management clearly disclose these requirements in the listing so future guests can prepare accordingly. Outdoor Areas (1/5): The exterior of the property appeared neglected, with an unmaintained garden, debris, and general untidiness throughout the grounds. Safety and Comfort (1/5): We encountered spiders and scorpions inside the house. Additionally, the kitchen door could not be properly locked, leaving the property unsecured. Given the isolated location with no nearby neighbours, this created considerable discomfort and concern, particularly at night. We strongly recommend addressing this issue as a priority.
