東寺の宿夏

The house was clean, modern, and well maintained. The host was friendly and welcoming, and kindly offered pickup from the station. He also thoughtfully provided bottled water and some snacks, which was a nice touch.

Upon arrival, he provided a very detailed walkthrough of the property and its amenities, which lasted about 30 minutes. While thorough and well-intentioned, it was more extensive than I would typically expect. During the stay, the host stopped by to collect trash and water plants, notifying me a couple of hours in advance. While I appreciate that these efforts were intended to ensure guests have a good experience, the hosting style felt a bit try-hard and more hands-on than I personally prefer. The host was always courteous and well-intentioned, but some guests may prefer a little more privacy and independence during their stay.

Our host met us and gave us detailed instructions on the house and suggested sightseeing, including the wonderful monthly markets at the nearby To-ji Temple. The house had parking for my son's Kei car van, which we used to visit sites on the outskirts of Kyoto, but the property was also conveniently located for walking and catching metros to temples, palaces, and markets.

Very comfortable and well equipped house in a quiet area of Kyoto with plenty of space for a family. Great to have two showers and lots of modern facilities to make our stay easy and relaxing. Very close to Toji temple and gardens, a 10/15 minute walk to Kyoto main train station for trains to major sites, regular bus rides into the main areas of the city and a supermarket one block over. The excellent hosts are very helpful and kind and have put a lot of thought into making sure guests are looked after. We would definitely return.
